So it's been a week or so since the release of Vampires so I thought I'd weigh in even though my sentiments have been largely expressed by other.

For those who labeled me a "true believer" when I declared my support for Won't Turn Back, is is a negative OLP post :)

Back when this demo was released I was largely unimpressed. I was really looking forward to the album that became known as HIPT with more anticipation than any album, by any band in my life. I was really expecting OLP to become the biggest band in the world for better or for worse given the international success of Gravity and I was expecting something either very artistic or some arena anthem the likes of which we've never seen before, and the vampires clip, much like the rest of HIPT, fell somewhere in the middle.

Now that we've heard the whole song, it is neither memorable, nor better or worse than Where Are You, and I feel the best thing this song had going for it, was the fact that it was unobtainable for so long. I feel Not Afraid was a better track, and had Vampires been released in a similar beer box promotion, it would have fallen flat and into the same realm of obscurity.

In conclusion, it's my opinion that Vampires is just an okay song that was not single worthy, and barley good enough to make what I consider to be the weakest album in OLPs catalog.

I think it would also help if we had a better-quality version. This is fairly low quality with a huge amount of depth missing (including most bass). It sounds pretty flat and tinny. Obviously I'm glad to have it, but a studio-quality mix would be more impressive, especially the version which had more guitar and bell layers (from the youtube Bob Rock clips).

Yeah I've noticed the sound quality too. I'm not as much of an audiophile as some our posters here, but at least some 256 would be nice when available. I get that it'd be harder for the early stuff though.

Anyway, it's been over two weeks now. Wonder when the next release is.

Yep...i noticed that the bitrate was at 160 kbps (and it's not constant) definitely we had better Vault releases in terms of quality...however the bitrate it's not the unique thing about quality...for example Not Afraid from the Vault has the same bitrate of Vampires...but it has a good (probably average) quality...however i don't think that the band didn't search a lot for the song...maybe this was the unique final version avalaible...

I think that in this case, it just wasn't mixed very carefully. It's too bad the later recording wasn't used. But, who knows, maybe they never finished that version, didn't like how it turned out, or that's the one they couldn't find.

A Waste of Violence would be cool. I'd also be psyched for Sleeping In, Ordinary, or Home.

Almost anything outside of the Healthy sessions will do though for the next release or two (although I'd probably be least excited about something from the Burn Burn sessions). Also kinda curious about those last few Mike songs from the Gravity sessions.

I really want Trapeze. I love that song, despite that my only copy is a very staticy early 90's live recording that has a 10 minute introduction of raine explaining what the lyrics mean

Its great, even if the quality is shit!

After that, probably Ordinary. But from the old christmas video (which is the only place i've heard Ordinary), i think it might have been cannibalized into some other OLP songs. It just sounds somewhat reminicent of other OLP tracks, and it makes me wonder if they borrowed parts of it to make new songs. Wont really know until I can hear the song complete without interviews going on over it.

Perhaps this live version may be an upgrade from what you have? http://olp.bringbackthesun.com/LiveUnre ... rapeze.mp3

So you have to assume the next release is soon. Do you think that because Vampires was such an anticipated release we're getting down to the nitty gritty?

They posted on Facebook saying to expect something in the next few days. The post hashtags #worldsasubway, so we'll see if/how that ties in. They've never directly given away what the release will be, so I doubt it's the Superman's Dead demo.

Why the hell was trapeze left off of clumsy? Some of these songs would have been huge. I'm so happy we are getting to hear them now.

Are there any recordings of the tracks left off of Gravity floating around anywhere?
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Not that we're aware of.

So I've just been doing some reading on various websites regarding the clumsy sessions, trying to decrypt #TheWorldIsAaSubway. Came across this on Wikipedia.

"From the bathroom I heard Raine playing something on an acoustic guitar. When I came out I asked him what it was. He told me that it was just something he was toying around with. I really liked what he was doing so for the next day or so the band and I worked on developing what became "Superman's Dead." ~Arnold Lanni

My guess is we're getting something from those Superman's Dead inception sessions.

Also I guess that will be something related with Superman's Dead...probably an early version (like Immune that's an early version of Consequence...)...i wish only that it won't be similar to the Superman's Dead demo that we have (i found some time ago a version on the hub...) but i think that will be something different..
