OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
This version of "Not Afraid" might be in my humble opinion the single greatest OLP recording my ears have ever had the pleasure of hearing.
The rawness is amazing and I love the hybrid lyrics between the Juno's version and the beer box recording.
Another surprise, these hybrid lyrics bring to light is how fucking dark this song is. It's not just a song about a lost soul. He is contemplating suicide.

Love it, was hoping for something we haven't heard yet but this is awesome too have, may scrap the beer version.
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Anyone catch the lyrics in the middle? Are they actual or scratch?
"I'll never get over you."

I really love the history they're giving for each track.
Me too! Reminds me when they were teasing songs to burn burn and had a snippet of info about the song.

Gotta say, this was just so amazing. I cannot express how good this song is. Never liked the beer one but this one is just insane.

LifeRiot wrote:Honestly....No Warning was okay. Raine sounded like he was singing underwater, but that's fine. A demo of a song we already heard is a waste of time. I want stuff we really want. Stuff that doesn't involve Bob Rock. Stuff they scrapped before they redid Curve. B-sides from early albums. If the next thing we get is a demo of Picture from HIPT, this list is going in the spam folder.
Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine.

All I want for Christmas is some OLP. Bob Claus hook me up with some Story About a Girl live pleaseandthankyouloveyou. Again I think the first two picks have been off the chain hook, with Not Afraid being better because you can actually understand the words.
I'm thinking that we will get one more track in a couple of weeks but after that I'm not sure. I feel like no one is noticing what the guys are doing here, might be discouraging to them(at least it is to me). What do you guys think?

I don't believe the purpose of this project is actually to generate buzz.
The CRTC recently implemented anti-span legislation requiring all mailing lists to get confirmation from all recipients to continue sending said recipients email blasts (you received an email from both OLP and Raine confirming this.)
Since leaving Sony, OLP has relied heavily on this medium for promoting both major tours (An evening with OLP & The Urban Grind tour). I believe this legislation has significantly reduced they're subscription base, and as a result this project was masterminded to rebuild it.
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
is everyone enjoying "Not Afraid" ? I was hoping they'd release this version! Some of us have heard it before. Duncan showed this version to us when he came to that hotel meetup in Toronto. His words were "We probably should have kept the song like this."
Guys... I was thinking "I wish they'd release that version... but they probably won't!" just a couple days ago.
I blasted the song in the car today like it was 2005 all over again. Images in my head of hanging out with all of you wonderful people at all those shows and meetups.
I haven't been this excited since I randomly bought a case of beer with the later version in it. Even moreso now.
I'm loving this!

Oh man the ending of this version is so much better than the "finished" version. And the high notes on "makes no sound".......

I was kinda wondering the same thing. It's odd that no publications have posted anything about this.

Love these rock BANGERZzZ we are getting. Just straight up and gritty filled with emotion. I like the beer version as well but this is definitely pulls at the heart more.

wow.... just wow
this "not afraid" demo is amazing.... i love it. i can't believe they turned it from a poignant song about contemplating life and suicide to a generic love ballad. so depressing to know what OLP could have been without bob suck.

Wow, this is so amazing that the band is doing this. Thank you so much, OLP!
Unfortunately, I didn't get to sign up on the list until after the No Warning email was sent out so I may not get to hear that song. That said, I am really loving Not Afraid. I even enjoyed the pop version of this song back when it was released on the Beer CD so actually hearing the raw version is a real treat. It's a real shame that this song never made it on an OLP album since I think it's better then a good majority of the songs on Gravity or HIPT.

However guys i think that the dark meaning of Not Afraid it's interesting like some of you told...and after this demo, i can't stop thinking to the "dark songs" that were scrapped from HiPT and that they won't never see the light of the day (like Duncan told a lot of years ago)...i'm really curious and i wish that something that we don't know will be release on TransparentHumans..

I'm guessing we're going to get a big one on Christmas day. Either Trapeze or Vampires.
