I think Mettle is great too. If I tried to rank all the songs on the album it might end up towards the bottom of the list. But it's absolutely not filler or a throwaway outro, and that last line from Raine has to be one of my favorite vocal moments on the album. "You think you know me, but you're wrong." I don't think anyone can listen to the song without feeling the indignation in his voice.

I don't get it with Pre-ordering on iTunes. Do you get something extra? Will they run out of Mp3's? I don't get the point of pre-ordering.

ya good point....unless there are extras for pre-ordering a digital copy, whats the point?

Buzzkills. Jesus. Maybe you've got a little extra money this month and can afford to buy the album. Maybe next month money is a little tighter and you won't be able to afford it. Maybe there are extras? Maybe you get a song download with the pre-order. There are lots of reasons.

For you two, don't pre-order it.

If you've got extra money this month then you should just not spend it in anticipation for next month. Never understood people who had to spend everything they had if it was there. :\

If there's a bonus or something then I'll pre-order something, or if it's a physical thing. But for digital things there's no point if it's just by itself.

With that said, why don't you go to Twitter and point that out to the band. That's where I got the link. @OurLadyPeace.

Hahaha, exactly what I was thinking! People just feel the need to have their thoughts heard on a subject, no matter how pointless it might be. Ah well...

I don't understand the feelings being caught in here right now lmao. There was no criticizing of Matt or the band here.. they were just saying that they didn't understand the concept of preordering mp3s.

I swear people get emotional over the tiniest shit. Chill everyone lol.

All I did was agree with a good point that pre-ordering a digital album with no bonuses is pointless. Its not like you are reserving a physical copy. Why pay now for something you cant enjoy until a later date, when you could just wait til that later date and pay and enjoy then.

Its a knock on itunes, not the band. And its just an observation. Im a Canadian who has already pre-ordered a hard copy.

I have let Coalition and the band know on twitter also
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

Long post ahead with likely some bad grammar spelling mistakes, so please bare with me if you choose to read it, my first post was pretty lame since it was just a request for a PM link to Curve, so it only feels right to come on here and share my thoughts after having my request granted.

Just a little backround on how I was introduced to OLP...
I was visiting my sister in London for a month in the summer of i think 2003, and Somewhere Out There was dominating the radio, it was on all the time so i heard quite a bit of it. I was getting kinda homesick (was 14 years old) and just fell in love with the song, so when i came back i bugged my grandma who was visiting us in Windsor to purchase Gravity for me, which she did and i was grateful. i was really into radio alt rock so Gravity to me was the pinnacle of music at that time. After a while i wanted to see what else they had to offer, so the next album i got from them was Clumsy, and being into radio friendly rock at the time i could really only get into a few of the songs on the album, but a seed was planted. After kind of getting into Clumsy, it was on to Naveed which kind of went the same way as Clumsy did for me, really. Then it was on to high school, where for the first week of school i saved all of my lunch money for the week to buy Happiniess... which got me through at least the first half of that year, I could not stop playing it, and it was the first time i think i really ever truly appreciated an album for what it is. After that obviously there was no where to go but Spiritual Machines, which at that time i couldn't get into it, it just wasn't happening, my opinion was that the album sounded too distorted, looking back it's hilarious how much time can change things. HITP came out in 2005, fell in love with that album despite no one liking it, not even the band haha. I guess it was the meaning behind the album that really got to me, and the linear notes in the book really made me think deeper at the time since i was very self-centered, despite being under the impression i was humble.

After a while, i started getting into everything OLP, i was listening to all their albums start to finish on a regular basis, not a day would go by without playing at least one OLP record.. But then, i started to change, as everyone does, my musical tastes were starting to expand and i started exploring all sorts of music, so i kinda fell out of OLP for a little while. Then when the news of Burn Burn being in production came, the nostalgia raced through my body and i was very excited. I was glued to OLP's site pretty much til the album came out, reading articles, listening to samples, etc. when the album finally did come out, i was pretty pumped despite not at all being into the lead single AYDWSML. But the nostalgia failed to cloud my opinion on the album. As a listener i felt disappointed, even though it was their music not mine. But that got me thinking even more, was this even an album the guys liked? To me the album felt so forced and desperate, not at all something they needed to do. Plus, all the songs were structured the same way which to me was very boring and difficult to get into and stay into it. It almost sounded like nickelback but with musical talent present, but still frustrating and a step back for them imo. So coming on here and reading all the nice things everyone had to say about Curve had me intrigued to say the least.

So here's this dudes flawed opinion on the album.

Allowance So much energy, to me it felt like a cross between Starseed and Refuge, which really works imo. It's just too bad that it's only 3:34 cause i really think it's one of the strongest songs on the album. 8/10

Fine in the Henhouse The opening atmosphere in the few seconds of this song sound very similar to 'Meeting in the Aisle' by radiohead, a very good thing. Then the bassline kicks in for a pretty groovie song imo. The lyrics run very smoothly as well as the transition from verse to chorus, something Burn Burn was lacking. 8/10

Heavyweight "The sun the sky the moon will fall apart, come tumbling down just like a house of cards" The anxiousness, desperation and passion with which Raine sings these vocals really stand out to me on what is their strongest single in a while. 7/10

Window Seat Easily their best flowing song in a long while, instrumentally it's beautiful imo. 8/10

As Fast As You Can They almost really had something here. This is obviously a pop song, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing, and it wasn't, at least until chorus kicks in, i'm feeling their forcing it with this song, which is a shame cause it has lots of potential if they would just not feel the need to rush from verse to chorus so damn quickly. What bothers me about this song and a few others on the album is that despite this being very creative compared to past albums, much of it is simply structured verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge(or none)/chorus/fin. but with the precision and depth in sound they have with this new record, it would be nice if they would let some of the songs breathe. As Fast As You Can reminds me of a more polishes White Flags. 6.5/10

If This Is It Really was in love with this song til the chorus kicked in, and again imo i was feeling them force it. The build up was going so great until the daughtry-esque chorus comes in, then one can basically predict the path the song is taking. My least favourite track on the album easily, one don't think i could get into at anytime. 4/10

Will Someday Change All i have to say is that i really, really feel this one. Might be my favourite track on the album, not sure, but i love it. Probably the song with the least amount of hope on the album, pretty gloomy, but so damn emtional and when i say i feel it, i literally do. 8.5/10

Find Our Way I know i made the comparison earlier in this post, but this song SCREAMS Radiohead, i enjoyed the song, but couldn't help but feel how it's been done before. Like, this is an intense ripoff of Greenwood imo, the last minute and fifteen seconds my jaw dropped at how much this song could work as a crossover between 'Just' and 'Paranoid Android'. Still, very impressive performance by Steve here. 7/10

Rabbits Very solid song here for them, a very mellow and engaging atmosphere. 7/10

Mettle i noticed a few comments stating that it would be difficult to get into outside of the album, for me this isn't the case, i thoroughly enjoyed this song through and through, definitely not suppose to be a comforting song, but it comforts me somehow. it has like a soothing eerie feel, if that makes sense. 8/10

imo this is probably their best album since spiritual machines. instrumentally i would say it's easily their best album, but i can't help but think that it could have been better if they had spaced out some of their songs more patiently and let them breathe. if they would have done that, i might have been saying that it's better than Clumsy or Naveed (Spiritual Machines is untouchable :D ). But again, this is just my opinion and i hope i haven't offended anyone with it. thanks for reading if you got this far.

I think that Steve's style, when he plays solos, was already sometimes like Jonny's go-to solo style from 1994-1998. Ripoff is a strong word, I don't feel that way myself when I listen to any of these songs. I'd say that Steve's style is influenced by Jonny to a certain extent though. There certainly are similarities though (in some of the other songs too) and it's no secret that Steve's a big Radiohead fan (there are recordings out there of him playing bits and pieces from Creep, High and Dry, No Surprises, and Bodysnatchers)

It's funny you mention that, U2 has a song (it's called Mofo) where "God shaped hole" is used quite prominently. In the context of that song, it's used more as filling a void caused by a lack of faith from what I can tell. Given that this song talks about the church, I wonder if it has a similar meaning here too... then again Mofo was on U2's flop of an album, 1997's POP. I highly doubt Raine's even heard it unless he was still a U2 fan then. ;)

At one time Raine praised POP ( which I think is the worse U2 cd)

Matt(xjsb125 you wrote earlier going to wait for cd. Ha. I thought I was the only fan that has yet to listen to any of the songs. I heard Heavyweight when I was in Montreal last Feb but going to these shows totally blind. I did not even listen to any of the clips during the process. This is all new to me cause for so many years was like all of you. Listen to everthing but after the last tours got burned out and just took a long vacation from everything OLP. Did not really even listen to old songs. I see this cd and show as rediscovering OLP all over again and why I love them so much.

it pained me to use the word "rippoff" but i was just going by what i heard, luckily music is completely subjective and there were probably some people scratching their heads when i said that.

I feel bad for Josh.
And, back to Curve.

I think I prefer Mettle over Allowance. Allowance needs to be heard on a better recording for me to actually judge it.

Here is my thoughts and fixes on the lyrics you posted a while back...still some tough ones to make out

ALLOWANCE
Skies like angels turn to rust
We hide inside our pickup trucks
Thoughts heavy like aeroplanes
Come crashing down and burst in flames
Memories, I'd cash them in for peace of mind
And some discipline...yah...ohhhh

No turning back
I'm starting to mend
A fortunate man I've always been
I tear at my heart
If I do concede
I'm only as good as you allow me to be

Friends will come and friends will go
You, my friend [?]
Raindrops plummet from the sky
Inside my lungs a bitter cry...yah....ohhh

Oh I'm starting, starting, starting to mend
As you allow me to be

Skies like angels turn to rust
We hide inside our pickup trucks

FIRE IN THE HEN HOUSE

Fire in the hen house
Protests in the deep south
It's Shangri-La in reverse
Time to call the wet nurse
Markets on the rebound
Riots in the ghost towns
Dirty little secrets
Always change and change and change

Accelerate, must accelerate
Hesitate, mustn't hesitate
Calculate, must recalculate where we've gone wrong
Happens deep inside our bones

[Writers? Riders?] on dust clouds
Working for the rebound
The casual acquaintance
The dirty leaky basements
They're calling on the reserves
The famous [?]
The crafty shape-shifters
Always change and change and change

I see you change
See you change

WINDOW SEAT

I can feel the knives in my back, in my sides
As my body slowly fades
Can you reach into time?
Bring me back here alive
Set the ocean's tides straight?

One by one we fall asleep like passengers in window seats
I know I should go but I stay
One by one we float away like accidents and castaways
I know I should go but I stay, I stay

I can hear the sounds as the wheels hit the ground
My bones begin to break
My bones begin to break

AS FAST AS YOU CAN

I know a girl, got a long snake moan
A fever in her head and a restless soul
I got a feeling that the church don't know
What the church don't know, the church don't mind
We all work on borrowed time

Girl, you run as fast as you can
Don't give up, we'll always be friends, yeah
Run as fast as you, run as fast as you can

I know a girl, got a long snake moan
Got the voodoo in her hips and a god-shaped hole
I got a feeling that the kids don't know
What the kids don't know, the kids don't mind
We all work on borrowed time

Every dog will have its day

IF THIS IS IT

I could be your greatest accident
I could be the blood on your fingertips
Nothing's wrong
Nothing to regret
Just want to breathe you in

If this is it

I could be your greatest confidant
And I could be the head laying on your breast
Just want to breathe you in

The light
The love
The hope is [here/near?]
The weight we're under disappears
If this is it

I could be your greatest accident

WILL SOMEDAY CHANGE

You say that love is a disease
Restless in its company
Like a river to the sea is where you run
You say that all the birds have flown
The heart an antique turned to stone
There is comfort in this great unknown

And all that you've known
All that you say
All that you've known will someday change

You say forgiveness don't last long
You hear the ticking of the bomb
Leaves you wondering where it all went wrong

Light lead us all like harmless spirits traveling

FIND OUR WAY

Hang me up to dry with your clothes
Drink away the fear in my bones
Save me from this ugly landfill
Sun will scare away this winter chill

We love before we hate
And bend before we break
Talk before we'll [?]
And walk before we'll run
Find our way home again, home again
Find our way home again, home again

Lead me to your watering hole
Watch me clean and fix what I got broke
Leave me like a drifter out at sea
Tangled like my father's rosary

Find our way home

RABBITS

See the light in the distance
Ten seconds from sleep
If you blink you could miss it
Voluntarily
If it's home that you're missing
Better call the police

Hopelessly lost at sea
The holes we dig to survive
Like rabbits we run

Gonna join the resistance
Gonna tighten that leash
Try and find some persistence
Temporarily
If it's home that your missing
Better ramp up your speed

The light of day
The dark of night
We [hide in?] our heads keeping our dreams alive

METTLE

How do we agree?
How do we exceed?
[places? faces?] that our lives have taken
Sharpened instruments
Failed experiments
Faces of the occupation

Boxing helps. I guess, I think it toughens your mind. I think you push yourself beyond certain limits, past [?]. The worst thing in the world is to be in a fight and to get tired. You don't want to get tired in a fight.

Say that you could show me
You don't know me
You want to live oh?
Say that you can owe [own?] me
You think you know me
But you're wrong

No matter how much natural ability you have there's a lot of working at it. You know, you don't need... Muhammad Ali was a great fighter but if he didn't train as hard as he did, he... you'd never hear the name Muhammad Ali [....become?]. You have to train hard, you have to devote yourself one hundred percent.

You can't be a success if you don't have [any part of?] discipline. You need discipline to do things. And the discipline is you do it without things, you know?

No matter if we say we believe this, we believe that, you know... there's certain things we believe. But just how strongly we believe is a matter, you know... it's what we want to believe. A force much stronger than us, a power much more powerful, you know? But we still don't know. No matter how much we think we believe, we still tremor at the thought of dying. [?] we shiver [?] almost died, you know? There's something out there. But just to me it's like the great unknown. You know? I don't know.

One of the most important things in life is to have people who care about you, and you care about, you know... Love is the magic word, it is, you know? If it wasn't for love I wouldn't be here today

does anyone have any corrections or can you fill in the question marks?

Thanks...i know that they aren't precise but it helps me to dig the album in a deep way...i understood some lyrics by me but some not...thanks guys! :D
