What the hell is with those verses? Quiet or what?

Love that he's getting that mysterious element back in his lyricism. Bob Rock told him not to be as complex back in the Gravity sessions. Clearly, Raine is a better songwriter when he allows himself the flexibility to be enigmatic.

Trufax. I'll bet there were people back in the day saying, "'The world's a subway'? What the fuck is that?"

Oh, there definitely were many people saying that! I was 16 and remember it vividly. Nonetheless, everyone loved it anyway!

In addition to the obvious Beatles influences, I'm getting an Arcade Fire ("Keep the Car Running") influence on As Fast As You Can. Is anyone else experiencing this?

It's funny you mention that, U2 has a song (it's called Mofo) where "God shaped hole" is used quite prominently. In the context of that song, it's used more as filling a void caused by a lack of faith from what I can tell. Given that this song talks about the church, I wonder if it has a similar meaning here too... then again Mofo was on U2's flop of an album, 1997's POP. I highly doubt Raine's even heard it unless he was still a U2 fan then. ;)

I dunno. The context of "god-shaped hole" is used in a sort of seductive matter on AFAYC. Ha.

Haha, I'm the same. Very excited by the reactions, but still gonna hold off on listening until it comes out.

But possibly just until it comes out in Canada. I'm not above importing to get it, like, five days early.
I just wanna get out,

How did that same band that made CURVE make BURN BURN???

Question of the century.

Burn burn is burnt compared to this.
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Dang I want to hear this album now!!! From what I'm reading it's the best thing ever.

I'll try not to be a pirate and buy it off the shelf but the hype is strong with this one.
Sincerely, C.H.

the more i listen to curve, the more i find myself wishing raine to have sung in his old countertenor whine voice throughout, it would have suited the music so much better and would have made the album a guaranteed top 3 for any OLP fan.

his countertenor voice actually would have been out of place in gravity, healthy and burn burn, but it would have fit brilliantly here. especially in "will someday change", whose chorus is brilliant and could have been as good as "are you sad" and "4 am" if he had used the countertenor.

i'm not a good singer by any means, but i've been singing these songs in raine's old vocal style and it really makes me wonder what could have been in that department...

You say that love is a disease
Restless in its company
Like a river to the sea is where you run
You say that all the birds have flown
The heart an antique turned to stone
There is comfort in this great unknown

I realize that Will Someday Change and Warnings seem to have no relation either thematically or musically, yet I read these lyrics to the tune of Warnings and they fit very well! Hmm...

Now, I'm not saying that these songs are necessarily related in the way I just said, just thinking about how some of the older songs may have inspired newer ones. It would be interesting to go back through all the old streams and clips to see what appears in the album.

For example, I was very disappointed with how Window Seat turned out from the soundcheck version...it sounds very one dimensional to me, and while still good, didn't live up to my expectations. If This is It on the other hand I didn't expect much from based on the stream, yet when I heard it on the album it totally blew me away in comparison. And of course we all know how much FITHH changed, but I find it interesting how that song was done, and done for a while, and then shortly before the album was finalized they went in to re-work it. I wonder how that decision was made?

I'm not quite sure what my point is in this post, other than to comment on how fascinating the recording process is, and how grateful I am that we got an insight into Curve while it was being born.

I do feel like raine's old style of vocals would have been better, but this is leaps and bounds beyond where he has been, enough that i don't find it problematic (I'll always take more if i can get it).

I really really dig the CD as a whole. I think its an amazing piece of work. AFAYC is probably my least track on the record (thats not to say I dont like it), and I would have really liked to have seen grocery list take its place. I still am hanging onto Trusty's update that we "MIGHT" get some B-Side access.

Overall, the album blew me away. Gave me goose bumps, which the band hadn't done since, SM. Its also the first OLP album that will spend many many cycle in my cd player. The last 2 albums at least, they just couldn't live longer than a listen or two.

Man... been a while since they've release an album that i didn't have to skip on.

I also don't like that people are saying that Mettle isn't really a song... i think its amazing. I think as part of the album is functions as an outro, and really ties the thing with a bow... but as a stand alone piece, even with the spoken word, i think its an amazing and beautiful song.

I think musically Mettle gives me the most chills, I love it, so hard to compare it to other songs on the cd because it is so different. Like I have said it is like "Something in the way" by Nirvana

I'm loving the rhythm section behind the solo of Find Our Way. Usually when they do a solo type part, they will reprise a rhythm from the verse or the chorus (think In Repair for example), here they've put something else in to back up the solo and it sounds really badass, especially Duncan.

Regarding Mettle, I have a feeling this will be the most controversial song on the album. Based on the rankings I did in the other topic, it's obviously low/last on most people's lists...yet it's still a great song. I can't help listening to it thinking about Al Genina, and I think it would get more praise if it was perhaps shorter like that song was.
