so... that steve... the guy can play a bit eh? they finally let him off his leash(paper moon was like a preview) and holy ****, amazing.
as for the album itself, ive just finished my first listen so don't want to make a final judgement but i really did forget how good these guys can be. bravo. the only song i haven't taken to is fire in the hen house, altho the last moments of the song are pretty awesome. oh, and favourites on first listen are rabbits/window seat/find our way.

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
My only complaint on the first listen is that Window Seat fades out right when it should have a massively epic insane 3 minute guitar solo. Maybe someone's keeping one final surprise for the album? Probably not but that would be neat. This must be rectified on the Urban Grind tour!

by the way for all those who haven't heard yet or noticed.... there is one extremely old-school OLP vocal moment during the outtro of "find our way", you could swear it's a clumsy or happiness b-side.

(bad, mediocre, ok, good, very good, amazing)
Allowance - good/very good
FITHH - good
Heavyweight - very good
Window Seat - ok
As Fast as You Can - very good/amazing
If This Is It - very good/amazing
Will Someday Change - mediocre
Find Our Way Home - good
Rabbits - good
Mettle - mediocre
The only 2 songs I didn't really enjoy were Someday and Mettle. Window Seat is only ok, but it may grow on me. I thought Rabbits would have a bit more energy, but it's decent. Highlights are definitely As Fast As You Can and If This Is It. First half is very solid, up to song 6. Then it kind of loses a bit of its energy.
Overall it definitely beat my expectations, though I think Raine should have used more range and energy.
Guys the album is amazing! Only one thing...i think that the album is of 9 songs...Mettle for me is like the RK tracks in Spiritual Machine! The only songs that i need to listen in a deep way is Will Someday Change...it seems like an Al Genina for me...for the rest all the songs are really amazing! Thanks guys this is a great album...is a OLP album!

There's still some falsetto in If This is It, it's just hidden in the outro. Didn't notice right away.

Can someone PM it to me please?

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
I heard the 30 second clip of "As Fast As You Can" first and was immediately taken aback - it's definitely not a sound OLP is known for. Then after listening to the full version, now the song is without a doubt my favorite on the album. And there are some truly incredible songs on this record.
This is going to make an incredible single. Mark my words.
This song makes me so fucking happy. If it had been up to me in terms of OLPs direction, I'd have said, broodier, darker, more eccentric - but I can't fight how damn positive this song is. It's got this pure honest positive energy which is incredible. Positive energy that is dishonest just comes off as cheesy, but if it's honest it can be amazing. It almost feels like the whole band have genuinely accepted who they are and are just super eager to share that anyone in earshot. Raine is just explosive here as well.
Definitely one of the OLP greats.

I'm ready to take back anything negative I said about those clips we have been hearing - sounds like they really do not do the full songs justice.
So looking forward to buying the proper disc
(and forcing my friends to buy it
)

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!
I still need to listen to this a lot more to grow on me but it's nothing like burn burn or HIPT.. It's different... The clips are total BS, don't judge until you hear the CD. Raine's vocal delivery is much much better than BB, excellent, I must say.. It could have gone without 2 songs and other songs we heard in the making in place.. After this one I think everyone is going to really be asking about b sides (hehe) because if they made this, what does the other stuff sound like that got left off?!?!?!
I need to listen to it more.
If anyone wants it, you can PM me also.

On my second listen through now and absolutely loving it (note, any Canadians in the UK, if you have a Canadian credit card you can listen to the stream, just make sure you're in the Canadian store).
Fast As You Can is one of my early favourites. I know they didn't set out to make radio singles, but that song is so catchy it will do well as a single I think. The layering of the vocals in Will Someday Change is great. This is the best Raine has sounded since Gravity in my opinion.

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
I'm finally listening...I can't even describe it. Here's my initial thoughts, might change after a few more listens:
Both FITHH and Allowance were much better than I expected. I actually really enjoy the changes they did from the wolf.
Window Seat was initially a bit disappointing, I loved the soundcheck version so much. I think it'll grow on me. Wish the solo was longer!
As Fast As You Can is so crazy and different! I can imagine people that only know OLP from a few radio singles hearing that and wondering how much the band changed! Super catchy, hope it pulls some more people into this record, because it deserves to be heard. Works as a single, but not a highlight of the record for me, other than Steve's fun little lick and Jeremy's drumming.
If This is It blew me away, so much better than the version what we heard before. As a ballad, incredible.
Love the guitar/keyboard intro to Will Someday Change. Raine's vocals on this song might be the best I've ever heard recorded. FACT.
Find Our Way is my favorite song on this record (aside from Heavyweight). OMG Steve just goes off on this one! Solo is crunchy and full of attitude, love it!
Rabbits, I've said my piece on that song before, has a very cool vibe. Duncan is the star of this track.
Mettle is very interesting. It's probably the song I'm most likely to skip, but that being said it's a very artistic song. It's a nice tribute to George Chuvalo, and ties the record together very nicely.
Definitely it's hard to just pick one or two tracks to listen to, this record works best as a whole, complete work of music....work of art.
What a radical departure for OLP. I feel like, we've always heard little glimpses and hints of this kind of sound in the past, but this is the first time that they completely went for it. I don't know how to describe the feeling I get listening to this...I feel connected to the band more than ever before. I'm not just kissing ass either. I've been an OLP fan for 16 years and I've heard the best and the worst of them. There's many OLP songs that I frankly do not enjoy listening to, but Curve is something special.
The guys always talked about making the record they always wanted to make, now we know what it is...
THIS is Our Lady Peace ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the next ten years
