I did a phone interview with Raine last summer for http://www.windsorite.ca/ about their new album and concert at Cornfest. It It wasn't relevant to the article so I left it out but he told me that the band had talked about releasing a b-sides and rarities album a few times. I'm not sure if this is just his standard media/fan response but he mentioned that they'd try to sort things out for it after this release. He also mentioned that they'd wanted to put some of the Clumsy/Spiritual Machines recreation tour shows on iTunes as well.

So I don't know for sure if it'll ever happen but he sounded serious about wanting to do it -- it seems like the band would like to get some of that stuff out there.

Well on the Clumsy/Spiritual Machines' stuffs i lost any hope....the tour was 2 years ago and i don't think that the official recordings will see the light of the day! I really want the official recordings of CM/SM tour! As for B-sides for me is really hard...i remember when Trusty opened a thread on what the fans want from the band and the b-sides won i think that was 2 years or 3 ago....now i think that the band is focused on Curve....

Well that would be damn awesome but my breath isn't held. A tour DVD/blu ray of Clumsy/SM would be amazing, and a rarities/demos album would be incredible, but this has been talked about since before Gravity, so don't get TOO excited... we can hope! I suppose I've derailed the NEW album thread enough, glad to hear others points on it though. Carry on.

Another point to be considered is that the way b-sides and things are released to the public has changed radically in the last few years. With OLP discovering social media, and more importantly being independent to release their own material however they like, it's easier than ever for the guys in the band to entertain and execute this idea. I don't know the details, but I can assume that in the past if they wanted to do something like that, they would have to deal with Sony, and maybe they felt it wasn't worth the trouble, or what the record company wanted. Now, they realize that the desire for b-sides has grown very large recently, and they are in control of releasing those songs.
I'm in the camp that feels the songs will come out eventually, people tend to forget that OLP has actually released a few of them before (ie: Not Afraid).

Well, I haven't posted here in years, but I'm too excited about this new album to just continue lurking!

Definitely loving the clips so far. Absolutely love the video. It reminds me of some experimental films I had to watch in University. A lot of really abstract ideas. As someone said, similar in a lot of ways to In Repair and in my view, the Right Behind You video.

Now, any chance of a UK/European tour sometime this year? So many ex-Pats here in London I'm sure a show here would sell out!

I think there's a chance... a few band members have mentioned touring overseas but nothing's confirmed yet. I've heard some rumors that it might happen between the current run of dates and a more extensive North American tour later this year.

They do seem to be trying to get back to some of the places they haven't been in a long time. The dates so far include 3 stops in the 1,250 miles of the Pacific coast between Los Angeles and Vancouver that they haven't toured through since 2002.

Oh I don't doubt their sincerity, just their follow-through. As I've said I hope I am proven wrong on this one, but they've announced many things in the past that have never come to fruition. The Clumsy/SM tour DVD, the cover song contest, demos/rarities (which has been promised here and there since Gravity), etc. I'd love for all of these things to happen, but the guys tend to get over-excited about ideas and then move on to other new ideas and leave the old ones behind.

Not to sound like a dick, but the guys have a new album coming out in 2 weeks. really dont think anything but curve is on their minds, and i dont think there should be anything on ours either regarding their music.

So yeah, Curve.

Raine had said there probably won't be any bonus tracks for this record, unfortunately. So it might be more unlikely than previous B-sides.

B-side =/= unreleased track

*dodges fruit being thrown at my face*

^_^

Granted we know of about a couple dozen unreleased songs (at least), but they've still put out quite a few non-album tracks just the same. "Not Afraid", "Imagine", "The Needle And The Damage Done", "Whatever" etc. You can really throw "Time Bomb", "The Right Stuff", "Kiss On The Mouth" etc. into that pile, too.

As for "Warnings", if it hasn't simply been renamed, the clip was sent out just a few months ago, surely after the band revamped the album and scrapped a lot of the older stuff. That considered, I think it has a pretty decent chance of seeing release somewhere. Even if OLP have yet to do it, plenty of bands have released tracks exclusively online, both for free and through online retailers, so it's far from totally unheard of.

The strange thing is they had this entire album prepared before someone came in and told them it wasn't up to scratch, so they tossed it aside. Gotta respect quality control, but if you had that much faith in something at some point in your life, surely it's worthwhile enough to be heard, if maybe not on the final ablum? That's just me - some songs need to be on the album, they need to be heard, but the stuff that requires a little bit of digging is generally very worthwhile and enjoyable all the same, so no harm done. I'd certainly prefer this to things just rotting on a hard drive in Raine's closet.

"If This Is It" is on Curve and it's awesome. I didn't listen to the entire YouTube clip, but some of the lyrics are different and there is no crazy echo like in the clip. One of my favorites.

Well traditionally a B-side was still on the album, so you're right. But these days b-sides are usually tracks that are cut in recording and don't see release, or if they do it's partnered with a single or through bonus content for iTunes etc. You're right that they have released some stuff from the vault, but its' a drop in the bucket compared to what's available. Consider that instead of Live the original plan was to do a b-sides album of the Sony/Mike years (maybe with a few Steve b sides from gravity). That fell wayside, and we're a decade past that now. If they could fill an album then think about the HIPT sessions alone and songs that probably got overlooked because the band was going for the overproduced sound of that record. (Wasn't Vampires a HIPT b-side? If so I rest my case on that alone!)

Maybe Burn Burn doesn't have as many b sides as the other albums since it was recorded at Raines place so they weren't having to "kill time" in the studio or throw a lot of ideas at the wall because they weren't paying for studio time. It could be Burn Burn bonus tracks are all that was left over from those sessions, but I'm sure Gravity and HIPT have some solid unheard tracks. Remember in 98 that fan video they gave out with that incredible song in the background? B side to Happiness, but I can't recall the name.
