NEW SINGLE Heavyweight
Goddamn those verses are great, kind of a weak gravity feel in the chorus but still the best single they've put out since Spiritual Machines (unless Not Enough was a single, I don't recall.)
I see us old school fans from the 90s dig the verses while the newer fans dig the chorus. Makes sense to me, as the verse sounds 90s experimental OLP and the chorus sounds more watered down Gravity style. I do like the bridge and the "mash up" OLP feel in the vein of Supermans Dead and Monkey Brains.
Between this and warnings I'm getting a great vibe from a new OLP record for the first time in a decade!

I love the chorus. Can totally sing along to it. But even for those who are more impressed with the verses, I think the thing that ties us all together in liking the song is the sheer ENERGY present.
Really feels like they are back. I remember Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin commenting on how impressed he was with the "conviction" he felt back when they were promoting Naveed and opened for Zeppelin.
That conviction is something that was totally present especially earlier on in their career. That conviction really could sell a song to you even if was the type of song you would not normally listen to, just because of the sheer emotion present.
I think OLP has improved their songwriting at least, melodically as their career progressed, but lost that sense of outiright emotional drive for the past 2 records. (Gravity, though a change of style was still totally intensely vocally driven). So happy to see them in such good form.
Not to mention the link above and the other songs they played at the new years show are the best I've seen them in a while.

Acoustic+Violin version of the song, apparently part of practice before the live show. Sounds great this way.

In my dream world, they would just record an acoustic version of one of their songs every few months, just do a few takes live in studio and pick the best one, then release it as a high-quality download on Bandcamp or somewhere else, pay-what-you-want ($1 or $2 minimum), with profits going to Warchild or whatever charity they're in the mood to support.
That would be nice.
In the old days when bands played acoustic tracks at radio stations, the best tracks got put on charity compilations that the stations put together... but now if anything they just put a low quality stream on their website.

I ended up downloading it the audio from the youtube video. I can't purchase songs from Amazon.com either so what the hell...
Strange! On the 3rd January the song comes on iTunes IT...and i saw also on other iTunes! It's a shame!

I still want the full Vampires song dammit.
They MUST give us Vampires one day!!!!! I have asked jeremy and he said there is no chance....I'm curious as to why????
Maybe Trusty can get us some inside info on that????
My guess is it's something to do with sony owning everything
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

Damn vampires it's amazing! But the band told that b-sides will be released when they won't have fresh ideas...then i wish that eventually they will be released in a far future!
For the new album...well i'm listening the early version of If This Is It and it's fucking amazing! Raine told that reminds him 4AM and Are You Sad....also i can tell this!
Can't wait for new stuffs!

On Formspring a couple months ago Raine said this about it: "love vampires. need to find a way to get that and a few others out. some need to stay hidden - R"
So there is hope.
The falsetto really caught me off guard in this song. When I first heard the studio release I was actually pretty convinced that Raine was using some sort of synthesizer/e-music to hit the pitch that we heard in the verses. OLP's niagra performance convinced me otherwise, however, and I'm happy to see that the guys still have some spunk left in them!
Now we just need 10 more songs of this quality and we've got ourselves an album!
