"Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace called Dunner today to tell her about their new song "Heavyweight" - released today! New album coming in March with a working title of "Knives"."

Not sure I care for the comments on that photo... the picture isn't the point of the post and I'm sorry but Raine easily looks 8 years younger than he is....

I guess people will be people though!

Glad he called to share info.... hope they were setting up an interview time when we actually get to hear him talk about the album!

and yeah i heard some of that "first" record, i liked it but it was " just OLP", if that makes sense, like burn burn but with some extra ooomph to it - but this new stuff is WAAAAY better, honestly and not to hype it up - but the tracks i heard this last session were beautiful, and surreal and just different in every way imaginable - to me at least - like just so full and every single part worked out and slaved over - BUT - those parts are mixed with some demo tracks, some first takes etc - so it retains a lot of the rawness, and in some cases actual tracks from the demos - which gives it this very surreal sorta artsy sound, but still lets OLP shine with the things they are so good at.

i dont know if fans are gonna love it or hate it...no one does, but to me it reminds me of spiritual machines with a nice mix of new technology created by more mature/better musicians and song writers at the helm.

I can honestly say that everyone really pushed themselves to the limits on this record...it was a great experience for me to sit in on these sessions and see this thing get made, or a better way to put it would be to see it be born - never experienced making a record at that level before, then add the fact is by 4 of the most talented dudes i know...and wow. I now have a real sense of what it takes to be a professional musician and what it means to create a record that you like and hopefully your fans will like. It was super cool and I leanred a ton of stuff in regards to tracking songs, recording/micing techniques too - hehe - so that's a bonus for me!!

any way, im pretty sure even if you dont like a song or two or hell, all of them - the hard work and the dedication the guys have for what they do will really come across on this release.

i mena listen to heavyweight, i mean really listen there are some crazy musical things going on in that song- i mean ducans note choice coming out of that solo is about as epic as epic gets... beenn a really long time since i heard something that profound musically and its those subtle things like that that have been lost in most music today.

P.s - did i mention that Mr. Mazur is just going off like a madman on this thing? faces shall melt, oooh yeah they will drip I tell ya.

I have got the same impression when i listen to Heavyweight....it's a SM's song a little bit "modern"...this can be a fucking good album!

I really wonder how well heavyweight represents the rest of the album. I have not heard any clips that sound like they are as hard or heavy as it. I also know that this album is far more experimental for the band, so, i assume that none of the tracks are particularly comparable. However, Raine did say that structurally, they're very riff based, which makes me think that there is probably more that is like heavyweight.

I also wonder how vocally similar the rest of the album will be. Its nice to have falsetto back, and ive heard a bit here and there on some of the studio clips. I'm wondering if it will just be a "here and there" thing for the album, or if other songs will utilize it as heavily as HW.

Raine mentioned in one of his tweets that select Canadian and US cities will get tour dates in the spring. Probably right around the time the album is released. I think March/April was what he said.
