Jer did say earlier today that he's going to be in LA all next week finishing up the album, so maybe but I was thinking might it would be a live stream of some sort.

We've heard clips of so many songs that have a lot of promise... I think if the band has seen most or all of the songs through to a finished state, there's enough for a full album plus a nice EP of the leftovers. Or a deluxe version that's fully loaded. Or even a double album.

If they don't release them soon I'm afraid many of these songs we'll only ever have as the 30 to 45 second clips posted on youtube, and we'll always wonder (like with Vampires). Which is better than hearing nothing, but can drive me kind of crazy. At least that's what I get out of Jer's opinion that going back and releasing old unreleased "b-side" tunes would mean they don't have any good songs left in them.

Maybe I get into trouble by comparing my two favorite bands, but I look at Radiohead and it's a completely different mindset than OLP. OLP seems to start from scratch on each record, throw out any old ideas and make new music. The only exception I know of is "Sleeping In" which I think they worked on during sessions both for Happiness and Spiritual Machines. But sometimes in doing this they lose a very good song. Radiohead holds onto many songs that they feel have potential but just haven't found the right approach or captured the definitive version... and it's not uncommon for their songs to have a very long gestation period -- 5 years... 10 years... they have a couple 17 year old songs that aren't yet released but also seem to have not been abandoned. And I don't think anybody questions their integrity or relevance just because they looked back at their old unfinished material while also moving forward with new stuff.

Not complaining! I just hope they get more than 10 or 11 of the tracks finished and released while it's still new, fresh, and relevant in the band's mind.

Though I'm not against deluxe albums, I'm against deluxe albums which include such awesome songs like The Right Stuff that would fit amazingly in the original. Deluxe albums for me are more about bonus material and especially flashy limited time covers and what not.

What you mentioned bout Radiohead's approach to old material is pretty interesting. OLP should definitely revisit and release some of their older stuff. They have had sooo many good demos and unreleased tracks over the years.

Dave Matthews Band does the same thing. Say Goodbye and Let You Down didn't make their first album, but were worked on and made the second album. #36 was originally made in 1995/1996 and didn't make an album until 2001 when it was reworked as the song "Everyday." Halloween was first made in 1992 and didn't make an album til 98, and Don't Burn the Pig was worked on in 1995 until it evolved into Pig in 98.

There's still some songs that are performed frequently at shows that were written almost 20 years ago that still have no studio recording release.

Damien Rice does too I suppose -- though with him a lot of the old songs were recorded as demos with an old band and I'm not so sure that he'd ever re-record them for actual release.

I'm not necessarily saying OLP should go revisit their stuff that's already old... for the most part, we know about those songs because they were played live, and there's pretty decent live recordings of the majority of them. But all the new stuff -- there's certainly more than an album's worth of songs here, and a lot of the bits and pieces sound pretty interesting. Hope most of it sees the light of day!

I'm thinking it's a pocket tweet. It was tweeted from his iPhone.

Or maybe he's just being really cryptic about something.

I was thinking that but his pocket opened the twitter app, typed letters, and sent.... unless he forgot to close the app when he tweeted earlier. His technological skills aren't always there but he's learning. I mean. He has a twitter app now and he uses it sometimes... that's more than he did with the blackberry.... lol
