I wonder if hopefully they'll put another song in place of TRS? Or will there just be 9 tracks?

I think it's fun to look back and see we were really excited for Burn Burn just the same as we are for 8.

Though, I'll say this is almost a completely different time and 8 shows the majority of songs on it have a lot of promise, while BB only had a couple.

Just thought it was interesting.

EDIT: Some one impregnated this thread again, page baby for the win!

Also,

Steve on Twitter:
Working on a very different vibe/piece for OLP. Jazzy, spacey, a bit sad. Just guitars and a bass. Hopefully it'll find it's way to OLP#8

No, I'm just saying it's kind of funny/interesting.

Hype is good. Especially for this record.

Haha wow, I don't even remember saying that... but yeah I guess in that moment it seemed like BB had more potential. I think we'd only heard a small clip of Monkey Brains at that point too (from OLP.net), so the song seemed better to me back then... but in the end I think it ended up having a poor structure overall, and no hooks. Also, the fact that they had just dropped TRS as the single made us feel that they knew it wasn't suited to their style.

At least with Album 8 we have a really great unique COMPLETED song that's going to be the first single. We all pretty much unanimously despised the AYDWSML studio version from the outset, and while the live version was better appreciated we still all agreed it was a more generic song, albeit with a lot of energy.

I know i'm kidding...also i heard Heavyweight and i can tell that the album will be different! I think that can be a milestone in OLP's history because if the first single it's the song that represent the album well guys we will have a fucking amazing album!!

The hype is a bad client for us because HiPT(that i didn't live in first person) and Burn Burn create a huge hype that that has not been respected...but i think that Album 8 it's different!

P.S For now the unique song that disappoint me is Window Seat...but i don't give a definitive opinion because we heard a working version of the song...

Don't even remember the last time I posted here. Anyways, I was reading the reactions to the full version of Heavyweight and am like absolutely hyped up now. Been listening to on loop of the 41 second demo over and over haha..

Also, to your comment above, out of all the songs I heard, Window Seat is one of my most anticipated songs I want to hear. The weird chords and bizzare atmosphere are something that we haven't heard from OLP in a while- and at the same time, moves the band in a fresh new direction we haven't heard before either. What I find is that, OLP rarely ever comes up with anything bad the more experimental they get.. There are like subtle moments of brilliance that catch you sometimes more than a decent hook that is repeated over and over.

I really like the sound test i heard of window seat too... a lot. However, i cant really hear raines voice to know how its going to sound in the end. I hope it makes the album, but i also hope does a little more vocally for it... it needs some haunting falsetto to really make it strong. It sounds like there might be some in there, but the only versions ive heard peak out everytime the bass drum hits, so, it cant really tell.

To me it has a very radioheadesque feel, and i'm a fan... its actually cool to see olp branching out so far. I much rather have them creating unique music that sounds nothing like their old stuff than another bland-vocal balad driven album that sounds nothing like their old stuff. I think this album is going to be as different from their previous work as BB was, but (i'm hoping), they are going to do all the right things in their change this time.

I'm just happy we have more than one song with falsetto.

What's the confirmed count on that? 5 for sure? That is, if they all make it on the album.

If This is It, Warnings, Heavyweight, Tales from a Grocery List, Unidentified Song 2?

BTW Josh, I love the line in the Album 8 thing: "The antithesis of everything on Burn Burn."

I'm still rooting for "I hear you calling".

Agreed. Window Seat is just SCREAMING for some insane mind blowing vocals. No room for modesty here, Raine!

I'm totally with Furious George and Tinman here. I think Window Seat is lush. Very atmospheric, great chorus and a brilliant solo by Steve at the end. I keep listening to Bree's upload on YouTube over and over.

If I did have a complaint about it, it would be a group one. The Wolf and this (along with Paper Moon if we count modern-era OLP) end with a solo to finish the songs. All the solos are amazing and I love them, but group too many of them together and it can get a bit repetitive. If there's more like this then the tracklisting for OLP8 will need to spot-on to avoid repetition from track to track.

Yeah I love pretty much everything about Window Seat except the vocals Raine was employing during that performance we heard. It was only a soundcheck though, so hopefully he uses a more atmospheric distorted falsetto voice to match the instrumentals for that song in the final version.

Probably there is also Windows Seat where Raine sing some "oooh" in falsetto and maybe The Wolf with the falsetto scream before the guitar solo..then the number it's 7 song with falsetto...

Honestly, Raine could produce a full album with no instraments or lyrics, just doing his falsetto scream for ten or eleven 3:00+ tracks, and i'd be content with it. I think dropping his falsetto in favor of his "mainstream" sound was one of the worst things he could have done. Such a waste of such an amazing gift and talent...

I often wonder if his current rougher-gruffer sound is a result of dropping his falsetto for regular screaming (all for you, for example sounds awesome, but sounds like it must have been taking a serious toll on his vocal chords).

I think window seat is my current most anticipated song (Other than heavy weight). That guitar gives me goosebumps. Cant wait for a high def version.

I'd have to disagree with "rougher/gruffer". While his voice is a bit lower, its richer and more fluid than its ever been.

Rough and gruff is not necessarily a negative thing... for example, i'm a Tom Waits fan, and it doesnt get any gruffer than that.
