To the person who said they don't like the spoken word element, I think the "safety suits, parachutes, I dunno" part is a nod to the distorted spoken word elements from Spiritual Machines, which is what it reminds me of, not Raine's solo work. The "stop drop roll" part is a bit more like Raine's solo work though, yes.
As to the song, wow, the first few seconds of the clip truly blew me away. Raine is finally using his voice like it should be used again, without sounding lazy or held back. Fuzzy guitar is amazing and really reminiscent of the old OLP. The chorus does fall back into a more mainstream style melody, but it's still a catchy tune. I think the band has basically forgot how to formulate unique choruses instead of more mainstream-sounding ones, but this song is still excellent, definitely the best thing we've heard since A/L/S in my view.

There really wasn't a whole lot of spoken word in the clip. Either way, I don't have an issue with it.
After listening to the clip a few times. It really is the one of the best sounding studio recordings we've had in years. The chorus is a little mainstream, but it doesn't detract from the song.
Whoever said we praised AYD and then turned on it a few weeks later. That's only half true, since we first really liked the live version of the song. Once we heard the studio recording, we kind of stepped back slowly away from the praise we gave it. Different situation. This is the first we're hearing this, and it's a finished recording.
With this, The Wolf, and Warnings. It's a good track record, thus far. I'm all around excited for this album. It has genuine potential, unlike Burn Burn where we literally just hoped it had potential, and were kind of let down, but not surprised.
The only song thus far that I haven't really been feeling has been "Window Seat", but that was an early live version.
I'll question my sanity if this album turns out to suck. But I doubt it.

from what i can hear, i think the chorus hook really hits the spot. of course it has a bit of a mainstream feel, being a first single an all, but it has a kind of epicness in there that has been missing in the last couple of albums. i think its safe to say that this is definitely on course to being the best first single since in repair. also, might be presumptuous but the production sounds alot better than what was heard on burn burn.
falsetto
.. i'm glad raine gave into peer pressure.

They've definitely got something here, I think.

After a few more listens a few hours later, I'm liking it a bit more. I still think it's a little too conservative. His voice definitely sounds better in the main verse compared to Burn Burn, but it's still pretty polished up. Especially since the falsetto is backed with a deeper harmonized voice.
The chorus is pretty mainstream, like others have said. It's a good chorus, and I suppose we haven't heard the second half of it, but I wish they'd be more creative, which I agree they haven't been in the last 3 albums. Compare some of the choruses from Happiness or SM to the newer stuff, and I think it's a tough comparison for the newer stuff.
However, this at least shows potential, I just hope they didn't polish The Wolf down too much. This song makes Raine's voice sound good, but still not unrestrained.
Also I hope there is no more spoken-word stuff.

Also, I think they should sometimes drop all the "oooh" in songs. For example, in this one he goes "not to be weeeeiightleeess...oooh, when all.."
Sometimes it's better to just leave a void there. I really only like heard non-verbalized noise when it's not a word, just a sound. The occasional "oh" is cool, but usually more as a shout, than just a filler. But that's not a huge deal.

And also (and finally), I hope the album is a bit longer. Nothing wrong with 4-5 minute songs. 3:20 feels like we're being cheated, sometimes. I want a song I can listen to without repeating the same songs too often, so it feels fresh for longer.
Anyone know how many songs they are recording for this one? Hopefully 11 or 12, but I have a feeling 9 or 10.

Just thought I'd write out the lyrics:
The kids are building fires by their homes
The smoke is sending signals out in code, yeah
And these safety suits and these parachutes, I don't know
You gotta stop, drop, roll
When all of these walls came down
They'll shake us
We fight not to be, not to be weightless
Oh, and all these stars
I really wish Raine would have used his classic falsetto whine for the chorus, it would have made this song so perfect... but can't have everything! I'm not complaining.

I agree. I've lost track of how many they had. Some of what I remember was
The Rabbit, Tales from a grocery list, If this is it, The Wolf, Windowseat, Warnings, Heavyweight, and I hear you calling.
That's 8 but I'm sure there were more.... Who knows what actually makes the album though....
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida
