New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd

Guys i love the OLP since the 2004(when i knew theirs with Whatever from Chris Benoit entry)....in the first period Gravity was my favourite album...then i read OLP's story and i decided to listen the first four album in a depth way...and Spiritual Machines became my favourite! After these days OLP it's my favourite band.

I want to tell one thing...i'm happy that OLP didn't split forever and i'm happy that they decided to split only with Mike. With this i don't want to tell that Mike it's worst than Steve(but i think that Steve it's more technical than Mike) but i think that the Mike departure it's good cause OLP didn't broke up and then they continue to make music for us...

P.S it would be interesting to see a debate like this on Chris Eacrett... but in 1995 the CM did not exist

Exactly. Even in a recent interview they said they originally set out to write a hit single to get back on radio, but brought Jason in and he changed their idea into writing an album they would want to listen to over and over. I think having a producer other than Raine will be a huge positive. They have no need to sell tons of albums. The money isn't made there. They've already won awards paid for by Sony, and sold many records. They are at a point now where they can do the things they want to, and not have a label force them into writing a 3 minute radio hit.

Mike was probably never the sole person pushing back. It's seen in the HIPT documentary, and we even saw it in the live streams just a few months ago.

Mike's legacy in OLHistory is important as a founding member, and the first person in the group to really reach out and connect with the fans. To claim that he was really the person who forced creativity into the music is a careless thought. I would give Lanni more credit than Mike, in that aspect. 3 members wanted to go one way, and one wanted to go the other. What happened in between will probably never be told to us until there is a VH1 Behind the Music special 20 years from now.

Chris was solid, and I actually have enjoyed some of the live performances from when he was in the band. However, Duncan is a talented musician too, and was a better fit in the end.

In late 1991, guitarist Mike Turner placed an ad in Toronto-based Now Magazine in search of musicians. Michael Maida, a criminology student at the University of Toronto,[16] was the first to reply.The two formed a band called As If, inviting Jim Newell as drummer and a friend of Turner's, Paul Martin, to play bass. After they played a number of gigs in Oshawa with sets containing a mix of original and cover material, Martin departed soon after, and the band placed an ad for a replacement bassist. Chris Eacrett, a business student at Ryerson University, replied and was accepted after an audition. During that time, Turner and Maida attended a music seminar where they met songwriter and producer Arnold Lanni, the owner of Arnyard Studios. The band, with Lanni, commenced writing new material and recorded some material under the As If name.

As for mr. duncan - from what i know he was supposed to be the original bass player, him and raine had a band(s) back in high school and always remained pals - but he was in another band at the time and more importantly was busy finishing university....then he got the call - they made him audition hehe - and the coutts boots were born!

Anyways, you want an update huh?

hmmm what do I got for ya? I gotta be honest, I have been in the dark a bit myself when it comes to OLP as of late everyone has been so busy doing other things its been tough to get a solid update or enough info to give you guys anything exciting and wonderful hehe

As you know the guys are back working on the record, it's about 60% done and im guessing that number will hit 80% pretty soon...and we all know what comes after 80% (as long as we still moving in 20% increments)

Aside from that....and as far as dotnet being updated, yeah I know there is a reason for that though, things are moving a along and the online stuff is going to take a new direction. OLP.com now belongs to the guys and I gotta tell ya I am pumped about that because now we can do what we wanted to do all along and create two distinct online destinations for fans. I have spent much of my day getting all the final info and details sorted so I can start working on a new version of that site....TODAY!

DOTCOM is going to be your go to place for all things OLP - news, shows, vids, photos, social links etc etc...kinda what dotnet has been for the last few years.

DOTNET is going to be....well you guys are gonna have to wait for that one

but I can tell ya its going to be different - really different, oh and cool too! really cool like a cucumber, in a freezer, in the arctic, in february, during the ice age

and there you have it the most half assed olp update in a while heheh

are you talking about what i said about mike creating the band? well, mike was the one who placed the ad out to form it, and raine responded... so I guess you can say they both cofounded it, but mike initiated it all.

Thanks for the update trusty appreciate it, and cant wait for the new sites to start too take shape. As for the new clip i really like the guitar as well as someone else said, its sounding cool, cant judge too much from the short vid but its nice to have another clip, its been a while ha ha

What Trustworthy is saying. I think, is that Mike formed AS IF with Raine... OLP just formed out of that down the road. Technically Mike only founded As If. As If founded OLP. Kind of.

I too don't want them to set out to write a hit single (obviously I want them to have hit singles though, so that they make money and keep making music). But I do want them to set out to write interesting music. Burn Burn was an ok album, but interesting it was not. It was very simple. Part of that was their goal, I know. But I hope they make this next one a little more layered and nuanced.

I listened to that new version of the wolf, live. I wished they'd sticked with the old version of the chorus. I've noticed that raine writes interesting choruses, and then dumbs them down before release (see Where Are You).

when I was out there it was all about layers - layers and layers. You had steve holed up in the studio just noodling away on all kinds of crazy parts and sounds, duncan was rocking double bass parts (1st time ever for olp) , jer was trying all kinds of cool stuff with some overdubs, raine was trying all sorts of different melodies and lyrical ideas etc...even jason was twisting knobs on some crazy gear and referencing some really cool stuff etc.

After 3 weeks of being 'trapped' in the studio listing back to the songs and hearing the same damn thing over and over AND OVER again....i still dug what I heard and got the goosies a bunch of times...its different, i know that's been said before but im telling ya it really is different....when i first got there and sat down to listen to what they had been working on I just smiled and said "wtf is this? I never heard no OLP shit like this before!! I dig!"

It was all very creative and all about stuff sounding cool to them, and you gotta admit they all have great taste in music (well most of the time hehe) so what is cool to them will most likely be cool to all of us

At this rate, perhaps they'll finish up things in the late fall and release in the winter/spring 2012.
