He must have been testing out new material somewhere around LA. Not the first time he's played a solo show down here that wasn't announced anywhere online and nobody knew about.

There are tons of clubs and bars around Hollywood that have anywhere from 3 to 6 acts per night, and some that do open mic / "songwriter circle" type things on certain nights. I bet it was just one of those that was either inpromptu or slipped under the radar online.
I saw him play a couple times at Hotel Cafe a while before his first solo record came out. But the audience (which usually has a lot of musicians -- and one of the nights included Damien Rice) was pretty harsh on him. He seemed really nervous knowing the type of audience that was there, and choked a little bit half way through the set while retuning. I think those shows were some of the only ones in the area that were actually announced well in advance online. The others he's done were pretty low key, and probably at those most of the audience would have had no idea who he was.

Yeah, Innocent is overdone but I like this video! Chantal looks tired/bored out of her mind. Like she'd rather be anywhere but there. She must have had a rough day with the kids.
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida
