The only thing that makes me uneasy is with every new release they always over hype something to make it sound like what they are doing will be the next best thing to be released by them. Raines known for doing that, im hoping though that what they are doing really brings out the best of the band.

Where's trusty? =D I can't wait to see some new clips of the stuff they're working on! Raine is teasing us too much with his tweets =(

Never heard it described as "mind bending" though haha.

Good point, and normally I'd agree, but I have to say that the most promising and significant quote from Raine in these recent Twitter updates is "no room for mediocre rock songs here!". He's pretty much admitting that there was some of those in Burn Burn, and that it's just not acceptable going forward. That gives me a lot of faith in what the 8th album has in store. I think the SM/Clumsy tour has really changed the band's outlook on their current music.

Back when they were writing songs like "Never Get Over You" and "The End Is Where We Begin" they were probably thinking "this is what OLP music is supposed to be like", but now they've been reminded that OLP isn't about radio hits and "mediocre rock songs", it's about meaningful, emotional and substantive music.

I really believe that the sm/Clumsy tour did bring something special to the band and Raine, I can notice it even in the few songs we've heared from Raine's new solo stuff.

Is it just me, or is describing your own music as 'mind-bending' comparable to liking your own Facebook status?

Happy to see Raine updating us on his writing process. These lyrics don't give us much, but it's nice to get a glimpse into what Raine's thinking. Wonder what this lyric could be referring to? Definitely doesn't seem cryptic or poetic though, so from this lyric we can guess that he's not really delving back into that style.

One time, when we were hunting rabbits, we came upon a clear.

I came back here after being gone a year to respond and say that While We Were Hunting Rabbits is one of the best songs ever made. Matthew Good is the only Canadian artist I put above OLP. He is just pure creative brilliance.

Sounds like he's already being inspired by Kurzweil again and he hasn't even received the book yet.

So far I've read chapter one of my copy and I've had it a month. haa haa Wonder what he'll come up with when he's actually into the book.
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

I'm getting more of a Hunters Lullaby vibe from these lyrics, but definitely a Spiritual Machines twist on it.

As soon as I read that I saw a parallel to One Man Army:

"take this gasoline, tin head up high, walk like a winner"

"fill the car with gasoline, feed your change to the machines..."

And given Raine's tweet from a few weeks ago where he said OLP needed another "two-fisted" song like One Man Army, it's quity a possibility that he's been studying that song for ideas. But the "close to singularity" lyric is definitely Kurzweil/Spiritual Machines-inspired.

Loving these new lyrics!
