A true fan would understand. OLP ain't Santa Claus, they don't owe us, I you, them, anybody crap! They make music at their own pace because they want to make it right, not because they want us to be satisfied, although that is kind of important.
Does that make sense? (Seriously, did it? Because I'm not quite sure what I just said.)

8. Instead of bitching you might wanna take the opposite approach and take on a more positive and optimistic outlook...I know everyone else involved in the project has done that, so maybe if anything is owed to anyone here it is the fans that complain owing support to an artist they love and hoping that the latest thing that artist is working on goes above and beyond their wildest expectations
I was thinking this too. In the span of a little over a year we will have two full new albums plus shows to look forward to. It's so amazing to me that the guys already have four songs done that they seem to really love!! Waiting for this stuff is like waiting for Christmas morning when you are 8... it's hard to do but it's so worth it

Some of us have a great deal of respect, appreciation and love for the band, you, Louisa, and the rest of the crew for all the hard work you guys do for us. Maybe that's why we get so upset when others are on the attack.

“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

10, From now on I am simply going to ignore this useless banter. Sure it adds fuel to my fire and there have been times where I have said " this better kick ass so we shut those haters up" - but that got old fast lol - So from now on I will continue to let you guys know (most) of what I knowand just keep on working away on this stuff and continue trying to keep you fans happy with it
Love,
Mr. Trustworthy McTrusticles
So...... We can still complain, and you"ll just ignore it right? Cause I do like complaining.

1. I never said that anyone is owed anything. I understand that an artist doesn't need to have any communication with his or her fans, as I expressed beforehand. I just said that when the lines of communication open up from him to us and he sets up certain expectations and doesn't follow through - or end up explaining why it's been months since we've heard from him after he announced that things would be coming out in a certain fashion - it comes off as very crude.
2. I never said that you had to do anything at all about this. I wouldn't expect you to tell Raine that a couple of people are pissed off about his release promises. And there is no MY PLAN. Raine can release shit whenever he wants, but when he doesn't follow through on what he says then it's just a poor reflection on him. Sure, he might not have control and things change. That's not a big deal. What is is that he never explains that. He says things are coming bi-weekly and then nothing happens for months and he doesn't say a thing for people who are waiting because of HIS PLAN. Sure, he doesn't need to explain it to us but don't you think that once you tell people how things are going and it changes you should let them know? Finish what you start is the motto.
3. Those people, though, all those departments, have more information then we do since they are part of the Inner Party. And besides, lines get blurred when it comes to solo work. Raine is independent and the illusion - since no one explains it and I don't know it - is that the artist has primary control over release information.
4. I bet Raine is stoked and wants us to here to it. I bet it's amazing like all his other stuff is. Like before, when you start explaining release plans and set up expectations, follow through when they fall apart so you're not leaving people hanging.
5. Points 1 and 4. But also, it's a reaction limited to fans. I'm not in the business, I don't talk to Raine or anybody he knows. I have no idea what's going on. It's less blaming him but knowing he has more information -- probably all of it.
6. Again, Raine proclaims to be very close with his fans. To an extent, that's very true. Obviously there isn't a conspiracy and it isn't some kind of torture test but when you start to say something and it fails, just let people know things are changing instead of leaving them in the dark. Don't tell people anything at all if you don't want to explain why what you have said failed.
7. I get it. It's not that, it's just having a small message saying: "Plans changed with release. Will let you know." I know he has no need to say this, except that he does when he starts opening up about it in the first place and then stopping. I'm tired of writing this.
8. It's less bitching and just more expression. Artist and Music are two separate things and you don't need to like one to love the other. Just because I have an opinion that seems negative doesn't mean I'm not a fan. I hate Quentin Tarantino but I love his movies. Two totally different things.
9. I, for one, love all the work that Raine and Our Lady Peace have done from 1990 to today. But this isn't about Our LAdy Peace. It's about Raine's solo work.
10. I don't expect a reply, just trying to get people to read what I'm trying to say instead of jumping down my throat because I happen not to worship the guy and do think some of the stuff that happens is bullshit.
Everyone is going to harp on me again or just ignore the message because they don't know how to be mature and understand what I'm trying to say. Or they disagree because they are scared to open up or simply just don't agree.
Raine's music is amazing. This isn't about hating him or his music. If everyone can bitch about Burn Burn not being Clumsy and I can't talk about the artist and his fan base then what the hell can we talk about.
Besides, these boards have been dead and now what? People are talking like crazy.

I think it's incredibly common for an artist, any artist, to say one thing and then something completely different happens.
Raine does it, the rest of OLP does it. Pedestrian was supposed to have a live album coming soon a year ago. Damien Rice has many projects that haven't gone anywhere since his second album. Radiohead always says they are abandoning the album format but never do, they say the new album is practically done but not really. Nine Inch Nails has been working on a deluxe edition release of The Fragile, said it would be out this year but instead looks like we are getting a remastered edition of Pretty Hate Machine. Amanda Palmer was supposed to have a compilation of old demos to release once she got dropped from Roadrunner but that hasn't happened.
Out of everyone I've listed, I think only Radiohead and Amanda Palmer are especially good about clearing up confusion as things have changed.
And they all have better track records, from what I can tell, than 80% of the professional people that I work with.
I've seen it so much that it just doesn't bother me most of the time. Communication is good, but I don't see anything in Raine's twitter behavior that is out of the ordinary.

I don't really feel it's fair to talk about the maturity of people you've never met just because they disagree with you but I'm going to be the bigger person here and say this: your opinion is yours and you are entitled to have it. Same with me. Obviously people are going to disagree and no matter what the other says it's not going to change anything. There are so many issues in life that are much larger than when Raine's solo album is coming out. I'm just thankful to be where we are now and not in the years closely following HIPT where no one was sure what was happening with anything.
A little bit of positivity goes a long way. Being negative about things you can't change will only consume you over time. I hope this thread takes a turn to something better.

What's going on in this world?
Who knew that was possible? Don't be sad!! Tomorrow is a new day. You'll think of something to say to piss people off and then all will be right with the world again.

teedus, I wasn't talking specifically about you
I still don't get why raine has to tell people what I have already told you - if you really think he needs to tweet " hey plans have changed - keep ya posted" then I don't know what to tell you - you already know that is the case.
whatever, imma get back to listening to this wonderful record and waiting for raine to get back to me.

I really don't want to hear anymore of the album until it's released. I like what I've heard so far, and am content until release. I don't want to be overly familiar with every song when I finally get my copy. I enjoy being caught off guard by a great song. It makes the album experience much more enjoyable.

I love what I have heard so far with BMWAG, and I am also ok to wait until the relase of the album, I would rather be surprised of what songs are on there then get one every few weeks until its out, that way I have a whole nex CD to listen to in my car then just a few new songs.....
Raine is a busy man, between himself, his wife, his children, his home life, and his banf producing a new record, and his own record too?
I know everyone hates the paper refrence from Twitter, but maybe that was Raine's escape from the pressure to get shit done!

Kinda gotta agree on the "not releasing songs" thing and listening to the record fresh. For Kanye's upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he has released five of eleven songs, along with a bonus track, through his G.O.O.D Friday's (where he releases an unreleased and unheard song every week from August until Christmas for free). Plus the other six tracks had portions heard in his recent movie shown on MTV, Runaway. While he said the versions he released aren't the final album versions and will be different, I'm going into the album already familiar with everything.
There is another eight tracks that Kanye's released though that aren't on the album or are for other projects... So if Raine wanted to release a song that didn't make We All Get Lighter every few weeks, I'd be cool with that.

I like that idea
