Clumsy/Spiritual Machines Tour

The Saskatoon show was incredible. The crow was on it's feet from the second they came on stage for Superman's Dead.
Yes, I got to meet Shanae, although I never would have guessed she was only 15, haha! I figured it out because she kept looking back at me (her seat was right in front of mine). We did share a good moment when the guy next to her (Tyler, who was some crazy...CRAZY fan) yelled out "yes! I love atomic flowers! atomic flowers!"
Haha. After the show, all the VIP folks gathered, and a certain someone (starts with a T) asked if anyone had stories they wanted to tell, as they were doing testimonials (started in Saskatchewan) for a tour DVD for the fans. So Shanae and I and Tyler all got selected. Shanae told about how she met the band earlier that day in an HMV (checking out their own CDs!), and how about Naveed is older than she is. I told the story about how I was able to come to both Regina and Saskatoon shows, and brought drumsticks my brother caught to get signed. Tyler basically said OLP changed his life, and how Raine is his hero.
So the 3 of us (plus my friend and tyler's gf) got to stay and meet the band without all the other VIPs! They were super cool, of course.
But Trusty, my friend has a message for Raine: Yes, he is dreamy. However, he is too short for her. And he doesn't look 40.
I did like how Shanae called the guys "old", and they groaned. But they were super impressed by her. After she left (and I had my picture and chat), they couldn't stop talking about her, how she was so mature and collected for her age, and was inspiring.
So right as I was finishing up, I told them how much this tour means to us fans, and how we love them for it. I said that if they did a Naveed/Happiness tour (or anything else) I would buy VIP tickets again.
So as I was getting my stuff, they started talking about what album would work best with Naveed. They said Gravity might, but it sounded like they thought Happiness was the best choice. So I helped plant a little seed, perhaps!
So it was the best show of my life. Thank you guys for being so cool (the band), and doing this for the fans. And it was cool to meet you Shanae, hopefully we'll be able to meet again for their next tour!

that is Shanae for you. I told her she is very mature for her age. I still love how she wrote me don't mess with a teenager. LOL..

Ohhh Riley! *High five.* I read that whole thing smiling. I'll type out my version of the story. I apologize in advance for its length.
I got to the venue a little early, and was looking out the window, when I saw Raine, Duncan, and Steve walk by. I realized they were going to the mall and thought it'd be an opportune moment to go to the mall too. I got confused as they turned to the left as I turned right, and lost track of them. I wandered the mall for a few minutes, and saw Duncan and Steve in HMV. I, being a clever one, decided to browse CDs casually next to Steve, contemplating how to introduce myself. I look over, and see him glance around before diving into the OLP selection of CDs and flick them all back, sighing, after discovering they only had Burn Burn in stock. I decide this is the moment to introduce myself. I shake his hand, say my name, and we began to converse.
We talked for honestly a good ten minutes. It was awesome. I was taken aback by how friendly and generous with conversation he was. He talked about how disheartening the lack of music selection in that HMV was, and I started talking about how hard it was for me to expand my music taste, because of my lack of money and location. (He seemed so enthused when I said I bought music. "I mean... it's art." "I know! Thank you. It's really hard as a musician.") He asked where I was from, and when I started explaining my small town of 400 and my highschool, he was blown away. "Do you guys have a store?" "Umm... a general store. You can buy cans of peas, tampons, and alcohol."
We discussed SM (he said he liked playing that record over Clumsy) and agreed that it was our favourite. He was so genuine, and thanked me for making the effort to come out and see them, and said, "Okay, see you after the show Shanae!"
The show itself was wonderful. Clumsy had me going. And yes Riley, I was looking at you, because I knew it was you and in case you haven't noticed, I'm very subtle! Haha I wanted to see if you knew it was me and you never showed any recognition or acknowledgement. You were awesome. You were very nice, very enthused, and it was great having someone to talk with!
A big highlight for me was when, before encore, Steve walked over. Everyone was grabbing at his hand to get his pick, and he batted them away, and placed his pick in my hand, smiling.
As Riley said, we were in the VIP line, and a special someone came out and asked who wanted to be on the DVD. The beloved drunk of the concert, Tyler, volunteered, as did Riley and I. I was obviously thrilled when he picked us three to go in.
We had to sign some contracts (of course, me being under eighteen means faxing or mailing the forms to my parents) and soon enough, I went to tell my story. I kind of fudged it up and wish I had said something different, but what can you do. I have a feeling Steve wanted me to talk about being from a small town with no music background, and being 15 listening to music that was popular when I was 2 years old. I briefly touched on that, making a quick "Naveed came out of the womb before I did!" joke, and stated that I was a fifteen year old in 2010 not listening to music of this age. I also called out Steve for looking at his own CDs.
Anyways. So the guys came into the green room, and I felt amazed as Steve asked the recorder, "Did you interview Shanae? Shanae has to be on this." I mean, I can't even describe the feeling. Writing this now, I have a huge smile on my face. The stars aligned perfectly, it seems, because the whole experience was phenomenal. The guys kind of milled around me, it felt, saying things like, "This is the Shanae?" "We heard about you!" "Does your town really have 400 people?" etc.
I started to talk with Duncan, and he apologized for not saying hello to me in HMV. He said, "Man, you're so inspiring." After I had picked my jaw off the floor, I was smart enough to ask why. "Everytime I looked over at you, you were smiling and so into it. You got everyone going. It was amazing. Very inspiring." Steve chimed in: "You're very inspirational."
And to quit my blubbering, I'll try to cut this shorter haha. I was a bit nervous to meet Raine of all of them, because he has an intimidating air to him. Being in the same room as him changed my thought of that entirely. He was incredibly friendly, and if I do say so myself, seemed to enjoy me. They were all laughing and smiling, which means the world to me. I recall Raine grinning, laughing, quietly saying, "You're awesome. Just awesome."
I continued to make jokes ("Alright guys, I gotta go to school tomorrow... I'm in grade nine!") and everything. They were all dropping comments like, "You're so wonderful!" and everything. Raine said, "Are you sure you're fifteen?"
Before I left, I thanked them many times, and sincerely so, because I was in awe at how utterly incredible the entire night was. As I was making my round of goodbyes, Raine and I both extended our hands. I stopped, and said, "Whoa. I believe in hugs." I threw my hands around him, we hugged it out, and he continued to utter, "Unbelievable..."
After I left, Riley and I ran into each other at the doors. We had a brief talk, and he told me what he told you guys -- that the band thought I was mature for my age and full of spunk.
I can't describe how amazing this was for me. My heroes, calling me inspiring? It was too fucking incredible -- excuse my language -- and I am so hugely grateful to the band.
Also, Mr. Trustworthy, you were a delight! I must thank you profusely as well, because without you... I don't know man. You were awesome. So very, very awesome. But really, thank you.
And thanks to Riley, who was a delight as well. You were so wonderful!

Wow Shanae, I'm so happy for you! You can cross meeting OLP off your list - but I think you got more than you ever imagined! I'm glad you were able to represent the CM so well!

Phew. I hope everyone else had a good time in Edmonton.

Oh yeah. They all thought it was great when the CM was brought up. I didnt even bring it up, T did. ha.
From the sounds of it, the band has seen my tour promo too. TW talked me up nicely. I joked that if they ever fired him that they could hire me. So trustworthy, don't screw up, Raine has my card... if he didn't let it go through the wash in his back pocket...
