Clumsy/Spiritual Machines Tour
I know I'm going to be a real pain in the ass for saying this, but am I the only one who's really annoyed by the megaphone? What's with that?!
They said they wanted to reproduce the albuns exacly like they were, and Raine keeps using the megaphone in older songs. That's kind of a turnoff. Plus, he looks really bored singing most of the older tunes... pretty much just standing there with sunglasses and singing. No stage presence whatsoever.
/bitchy fan mode off.

First of all, OLP have tried really hard to recreate something, and going back and learning a catalogue that has never been played before is a hard enough thing to do on its own. Now that you're bitching about one or two little things... get your head out of your ass and appreciate what you got.
Just kidding man. I haven't even watched the videos.

[Obviously STILL sleep deprived.]

The megaphone was a fan suggestion by the people here at the CM.
Well, not the megaphone specifically, but a voicebox type-thing, so that he could recreate aspects of older songs like the "You feel the love, you feel the past, it's all the things you thought you had" part of Middle of Yesterday, etc. etc.

It is unreal just how amazing this concert was. It's like the band has come together and rediscovered something profound about themselves.
Every song I've listened to so far has simply been astounding. Even vocally challenging songs like Life were executed on-par or better then summersault 2000 performances (even back in those initial performances of Life you can hear Raine tiring out after the bridge...this is a very hard song to sing live and requires a lot of stamina).
I full-heartedly believed a year ago that Raine's voice was heading down a path where the band would simply have to stop performing their older songs. I completely and outright admit that I was wrong. This performance felt like I was listening to a band that was 10 years younger then OLP. Hell, the stuff from Burn Burn sounded better then what was recorded in the studio (no exaggeration).
Whatever pills these guys are taking, I want some!

Love the megaphone, love the glasses, love the falsetto. Is it just me or has Raine found a really good technique with his falsetto as of late? It feels much more comfortable, and even a little richer and wiser than before..
Also, he's been doing a bit of that breathy voice.. never really heard him use that before, but it sounds really awesome. Once again really comfortable sounding. He should use it way more often.

I can't agree more! It's like some part of the band got completely rejuvenated, like they popped out of some awesome health spa or something... (although much more likely they've been slaving away trying to relearn 2 albums worth of material)

I really love Steve's performance in Big Dumb Rocket......it's amazing and the megaphone it's alright to recreate the studio effect....

Just something I noticed... they seem to be completely omitting Healthy In Paranoid Times from their setlist... not one song from that album was played in Halifax, but 2 or more songs from each of the other albums (save Clumsy of course) were played. Hmm... I'm starting to think maybe they want to forget this album ever happened? I mean a lot of the songs on that album WERE very contrived... still, I would have expected at least A/L/S
—Doesn't anybody ever know—

I agree...I would have thought they would have at least played A/L/S...perhaps they will at 1 of the Montreal shows and that'll give us a better picture.
I have a hard time believing that it was intentional that they're trying to forget HIPT ever happened though, especially when there are some pretty good tracks on it. Definitely one of my least favorite albums from them...but I still know the words to every song off of it, haha.

During the HIPT tour, the only songs from Gravity they touched were Somewhere Out There and Innocent... during Burn Burn tour, they've only played Angels/Losing/Sleep from HIPT (reasonable -- Where Are You was not a great song) but they've warmed back up to a couple other Gravity tracks.
I think in a couple years they will rediscover some of the other great songs from that album... recording that one was a tough time for them but I don't think the album turned out bad -- personally it's probably my favorite of their post-Arnold Lanni albums.

I think they probably hear those recordings and it still reminds them too much of the process of recording that album -- in a few years I think they'll be able to listen to those songs, and hear them more objectively for what they are (which in a lot of cases would be good, solid songs than translated excellently to live shows).
