I concur. Kiss In The Mouth, too, feels a bit awkward.

I like BTH, but i agree it needed more work in the studio.

So are these songs from the Naveed-like rock album Raine was talking about last year?

But I agree. Ha.

Burn Burn was good, but its just much mellower than I wanted and expected.

Burn Burn has basically taught me to take the band's description of their work with a grain of salt. Raine's also compared Spiritual Machines, Gravity, and Healthy to Naveed. Yeah, all four of these albums are a hell of a lot like Naveed...

I think Raine meant more that Burn Burn was the raw sound out of the studio with minimal processing, not that it had a raw hard edge. Obviously we all hoped for that.

However, this new stuff sounds kind of what we hoped for.

Again though, the one thing I am asking for is a return to Raine's old style: sounding like he can barely contain his voice.

I'll toast to that.

He has the ability rip apart those lyrics in such a powerful and heavy fashion, yet... He sounds (on Burn Burn) like he just doesn't want to be there.

I'm hoping for a new song or two to be "tested" on this tour (at least in Winnipeg!!)lol

I totally agree with you. I m not asking Raine to go back to using huge falsetto if he doesn't feel comfortable doing it anymore, but it would just be nice to have the passion that he used on every other album other then Burn Burn. I really don't think it was because Raine wanted to sound like he didn't care I just think he was going for a different sound that isn't really him.

Agreed on both parts. ;)

I also think Raine focused on making his voice sound too perfected on Burn Burn. Watching some studio footage he looks like he is concentrating so hard not to fuck up or something. That's never how I imagined him in the studio listening to other albums.

I think that Raine have understand that the falsetto it's a OLP's character, i tell this because the Clumsy/Spiritual Machine tour need the falsetto...come on people do you really see "The Wonderful Future" or "Big Dumb Rocket" with the Raine's voice of last years? I not...and recently Jeremy told that they are looking forward to playing some of the more obscure tunes such as "The Wonderful Future" off Spiritual Machines(source: http://www.ourladypeace.cc/index.htm)...i wish the coming back of the falsetto in tour and in studio...however without the falsetto OLP make some good song...but i think that it's all better with the falsetto...

I agree. I love his falsetto, and hope he continues to use it. However, it's not what makes the songs great. Look at the Clumsy CD. The falsetto really helps Superman's Dead. But on the other hand, 4AM and Clumsy are incredible on their own with just his regular voice.

Oh yeah, no real problems with Burn Burn, I was just joshing.

I also think his vocals on the album are just fine, but that's me. He's not going crazy vocally, but then that style would not fit a lot of these songs. When it IS called for - the chorus of "The End is Where We Begin", the chorus of "Monkey Brains", "The Right Stuff", etc. I think he pulls off an energetic vocal just fine.

Sure, there are no points where he really "goes off" as he would occasionally do in the past, but again, these songs don't really call for it. I do see how someone could feel there's not enough conviction etc. in his voice on the album, though.

Obviously I'm in no position to say anything for sure, but there are plenty of instances of artists revisiting older material to such an extreme extent that some older elements of their music begin to re-appear. Wouldn't shock me one bit if this tour brings out a few of those elements in their newer material.

I agree that some songs don't call for Raine "going off," but it seems like a lack of emotion all together. He didn't go off in songs like 4am, Clumsy, Thief, or Are You Sad?, but the emotional attachment heard in the vocals of those songs really take them to another level. Besides a song like Refuge (while still not executed like they had been), that was missing from Burn Burn.

Yeah, and recently he doesn't seem to be putting much emotion into those songs live either (4am, Thief, Clumsy, etc)... maybe he's depressed? ha... or just really stuffed up.... I kinda sound like he does these days when I have a cold :P
