Possible reasons for OLP's forthcoming tour...

Post by Fabio_kun »

I've been very excited for most of you guys (the ones who are going to be able to go to any gig of the upcoming tour), those are definately going to be nights to remember.

I don't want to get into a discussion about the "new OLP vs the old OLP" because I think that by now we've had enough of that. Not taking in consideraton the fact that some of us might enjoy the new OLP better than the old one and vice-versa I've been reading a lot of comments on youtube about Our Lady Peace and funny or not it really seems like a lot of people are kind of bored by the new Our Lady Peace.

Once again, have in mind that my point here is not to talk about the new directions the band might be going for - specially considering the band's sound has changed a lot over the past decade. So anyway.

Well, at this point the band members are probably aware that tons of fans sort of miss the old days. Wether it's because of Raine's old voice or because of what they used to sound like. So my point is... do you think they are doing this tour in order to get these fans back?

I don't live in Canada so I have no clue of how big OLP's fan base is like. All I can tell is that when I used to have a fanbased OLP website they used to be in the media quite a lot. They were in tons of MuchMusic interviews and all that. So I don't know wether or not the band has gotten kind of smaller in the Canada and US. What do you guys have to say about that?

I believe that as a band once you're truly happy and confident about what you're doing sometimes you might even ignore your past which I believe was something that unfortunately OLP ended up doing for a while. That also led me to think if OLP is truly happyw ith the success (or lack of) they've been having over the past years. Do you also think that bringing back award wining albuns such as Clumsy has anything to do with that?

Am I just thinking too much? I know that us fans sometimes can be a pain.

And also, I'm sorry for my english and I hope I have made myself clear. Sometimes the language barriers tend to work agains me.

And PS, I like the new OLP and specially love the new album.

I think part of it might have to do with wanting to gain back some older fans, but mainly I think they're doing it because they enjoy it and want to delve back into music that they haven't played live in ages (or at all, ever). Also, in this morning's interview with The Edge 102.1 Jeremy indicated that one of the reasons they were doing this was because of fans "coming up to them" and always asking them to play more old stuff (he called it "the deeper stuff"). So yeah, a mixture of things I imagine.

I think it's a combination of things. On one hand, they probably want to satisfy the fans that repeatedly wish for seeing "the old ones" live, and also, it'll draw in some fans again. I was thinking about it, because my friend asked if they were going to play a huge venue.

I realized, well... if they were touring Burn, Burn, it probably wouldn't get much buzz and they'd be in a pretty small venue (for being OLP and all). But if they bring this stuff out, they might attract more attention, get more people excited, drag in old fans, and get people interested again.

Hmm... and they try saying the newer stuff is "matured." Yet he says here that stuff was deeper lol.

Anyway, I have a few ideas for why it's happening. One reason is like you said, to appease the older fans. Another reason is to probably keep their name out there. Different media outlets like ChartAttack have picked up on it extremely soon after the annoucement, and fans are coming back out of the woodwork. So it's sort of a win-win situation if they can draw back in some fans while drawing attention to their newer projects like Burn Burn.

After all, not trying to be rude, but I really doubt this tour would be such a hit already if they announced they'd be playing Burn Burn in it's entirety. Not (just) because a portion of fans don't think it's as strong, but because it's a pretty new album.

EDIT- Aaaand Shanae posted something extremely similar to me while I was typing mine up. Damn it.

Perhaps it was the fact that my mind was out on loan which caused my ideas to be open for everyone?

Wait... what?

Definitely part of it.

More then that, I think the band has taken some heat from fans for advertising Burn Burn as being a return to naveed, or at least this is how everyone 'misunderstood' it. The band has probably noticed that people actually like their older stuff a lot more then they thought.

I think if the turnout for this tour is high it could possibly mark a shift in the band's future direction.

Truth. ^ I can see this tour attracting a lot of, "Oh, Our Lady Peace... gosh, I remember being in love with Clumsy when I was like 15... I used to listen to it all the time... I never knew they were still around."

Crazy stuffs. It's crazy that Clumsy is already twelve years old, and Happiness is ten... etc. That's nutty.
