Next Single
So now that we've had a good day to listen to the album...what comes next?
A/S/L was the obvious choice after Where Are You? I don't think it is so obvious this time, and all depends on which direction the band wants to go.
I see 4 choices.
1. Monkey Brains
The obvious CMer choice. However, I don't see it is likely. It has an odd format, and radio stations don't like that. It would definitely stand out, however, and I believe really help push the record.
2. Dreamland
The obvious mainstream choice. Heavier than AYD, but still catchy and mainstream. It wouldn't be my first choice, but I would approve it if they made it. I think it would make a 3rd or 4th single, however. ANd obviously they would need to make one edit. No one gives a...duck.
3. The End is Where We Begin
Not an obvious choice, but I think a smart one, if they decide to go the mainstream route. It's very, very catchy. And upbeat, which is important if they release it in August. A solid mainstream choice, even if a little uninspired.
4. White Flags
Next to Monkey Brains, their hardest on the record. But hard in a smoother way. I think this song would do very well on rock stations. It's fast, high-energy, and has a catchy chorus. Most importantly, it retains a lot of the energy of the live performance.
5. ??? Escape Artist
Can't we dream?

I really have to believe that 'Never Get Over You' will be the next one out the door. It has radio written all over it. Even some of the reviews have it as the most "ballad" sounding some. Monkey Brains is awesome, but I don't think it's single material. For us, it sounds amazing. For the rest of the listeners, it would not be received well. Dreamland isn't strong enough.

So if OLP doesn't release Paper Moon as a single, they're making a massive mistake. The song isn't a single, yet is their 2nd most downloaded song on iTunes (only behind AYD, which means it could definitely surpass AYD if it was a single) and is the second most listened to song from Burn Burn on MySpace.
If it's generating these numbers without receiving play anywhere, then they definitely have hit on their hands if they choose to utilize it. They already should have, to tell the truth, instead of releasing The End. This shows what I've been saying, they'll have their biggest hits when they aren't trying to write one.

I agree. Paper moon and Monkey brains should have easily been the singles. They still can potentially release 2 more, I think they know what they need to do.
Everyone I talked to who really aren't into the band have totally knocked the new cd based on AYD, and I know the same with happen for The end.
They have full control over the releases do they not? then why not release the songs that are amazing and creative over the ones that are poppy and catchy, because this mind set clearly isn't working right now.
