Yeah... and we also have to consider how much we might REGRET hearing those old songs again if Raine butchers them too badly... his voice just doesn't have that range anymore and if he sings them any differently it probably won't be the same

That's something that gets mentioned here frequently that just isn't true. I'll buy that his voice may have changed slightly over the last 15 years and he doesn't go nuts with it every night, but he still has the range.

He does have the range, otherwise we wouldn't see it here and there live. He simply doesn't utilize it anymore.

I think if he put hours and effort into it, it would be 95% as good as it was in 99. But he has a family now, and doesn't want to spend time doing that sort of thing.

Also, I've come to realize that b-sides won't happen. I don't think the band cares too much what we want, at this point. The whole Trustworthy thing and the site, it's just viral marketing. It works on fans every time.

Yeah, I gave up on b-sides too. The best we can hope for is live pictures, and live videos.

Well, yeah, he just doesn't have the WILL to have that range anymore, I guess. It really saddens me how little effort he puts into the chorus in One Man Army live, for example. He has totally transformed the vocal melody in that chorus within the past few years, and NOT in a good way. In the "Live" CD you can hear that it sounds difficult for him to retain the original key, so I think his vocal decline is more of a combination of the Bob Rock effect (i.e. being trained to sing in a lower octave), and just not giving enough effort anymore.

I believe they shifted One Man Army to a lower key when they started touring for Spiritual Machines, and on the Gravity tour I thought it was pretty consistently the weakest song in their set. The version on "Live" is one of the exceptions that I think actually turned out sounding good. Since then the alternate arrangements with Joel and now as a 4 piece is really the only thing I think the song has going for it in their live sets... but at the same time I've heard great upper range live in Car Crash, The Wonderful Future, and others. I think he uses it more sparingly to avoid strain and permanent damage, though. I doubt he was ever able to do absolutely everything that he did while using good technique.

I never noticed the 'cooloest' part, but I saw the 'thier' deal.

I'm sure Raine still has a good portion of his former range, but maybe he's just saving his voice? He could want to keep that jewel safe. For what, I'm not sure...

how about a fan vote where the band chooses 1 or 2 songs from each album that they are not currently playing and lets the fans vote on which ones will get added to the setlist? that would be the coolest damn thing ever!

Yeah, getting fans to vote on songs in a setlist would be pretty neat.

I would like to echo this question.

(And yes, this is my first post since I registered 5 years ago. IDK, I guess I'm a slow starter?)

I just heard an interview with Steve (http://theaudioperv.com/2009/08/03/tap- ... ady-peace/), and apparently his favorite songs to play live are Are You Sad? and Naveed, so hopefully that might pave the way for Are You Sad? to make a return.

He also said that he really likes Spiritual Machines and the band knows how much people love it, and that they're trying to get a couple more of it's songs in the set.

Good call. I'd appreciate it if the OLP show I'm going to in a few weeks wasn't the same as the 10 shows before it.

Exactly. Fuck, if they don't want to dig, throw Do You Like It or All For You back into the set. Anything, really.
