The Naveed reference was in terms of how the record was made. Nothing more, nothing less.
Naveed / Burn Burn = 4 guys making tunes with some nice gear.

I imagine its because they believe they are better live then on record. Secondly, most people who go to see a show would have no idea that the set list played in Ottawa is the same set list played in Vancouver. I'm guessing a large majority of people who go and see Our Lady Peace would only experience one show per tour. Or dare I say, one show every few years.

Even if that's the case, I would figure they would get bored going through the same song routine every night. I realize that a crowd may be different than another, giving a different energy and give a fresh feeling... but still. If I was in a high profile band, I would get a little tired of doing the same thing over and over.
MindsOnLoan wrote:Why does OLP call themselves a performance-based band if they play the same sets for months at a time, only to switch it up by adding a song or two for a couple of months (then going back to the original set)? Just curious.
It frustrates me to no end that they are playing the same set over and over again.... but I think a lot of it has to do with the type of shows they are playing right now.
These string of dates are the first real profile shows for OLP in ~3 years.... and the majority of them are festival type shows. I saw them in Vancouver last week with a bunch of friends (who aren't OLP fans) and all they wanted to hear were OLP singles. When they played "Denied" (or even any of the new tracks)... the energy in the crowd sagged considerably I thought. I think they are just trying to put on a good show for the majority of the festival/casual fans (and that means playing singles).... while throwing in the odd nugget (see Denied) for the hardcore OLP fans.
That said, my little theory will be blown right out of the water if the same thing happens during their headlining tour in the fall. Here's hoping they prove me so, so wrong.
I was thinking that as well. ^ I saw Marianas Trench at an exhibition, and when they pulled out a gem for the hardcore fans, nobody listened and the crowd's attention was lost. As soon as they played All To Myself, though, the crowd was happy to be there.
As for OLP, yeah, they could whip out some goldies and make the few hardcore fans happy, or keep the general audience's love by playing the songs they know.

True story. I wasn't at Salmon Fest, but I doubt anyone there would have given a flying fuck if they'd played Hope or Blister.
Then again, we've been complaining about them not changing up their setlists since I got here. I think I might have literally made my first post on the topic.

I guess it'd be weird for me if I went to an OLP show and they didn't play the main songs I knew before I really loved the band. Like Superman's Dead, Clumsy, Is Anybody Home?, One Man Army, Innocent, Somewhere Out There, etc. They've had so many hits, I guess it'd be hard to choose which are the ones to keep in a setlist.
But yes, overall it'd be weird coming home from an OLP show saying, "Hmm, they didn't play 'Is Anybody Home?'."

I've always wanted to see someone give a flying fuck.
Johnny, true, but it's to be expected at festivals. Most bands performing at festivals will always bust out the hit pack.

MindsOnLoan wrote:But to play every hit is ridiculous... They need to pick and choose which hit will be played that night, and choose a few different hits for the next night.
No, they should choose the songs that they are feeling the best with. A set list should be made the day of, and should be the songs they want to play.

So an all single setlist?
