It was not raine. The exact words were WE ARE NOT GOING TO PLAY THAT SONG AGAIN. Thing can change though..
I have learned to not really ask Raine too much about his songs.. ALthought lately he has been very open and forthright with them..

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

That has absolutely nothing to do with it, otherwise covers would never be done. You can play anything you want, just as long as you aren't releasing it for profit without consent.
I think you are wrong about that:

In terms of the legalities of performing covers, Canada's Copyright Act grants the creator of a copyright protected musical composition the sole right to perform the work in public. As such, in order to perform a copyright protected song, an artist must first obtain permission from the creator of the song or the owner of the copyright in the song, if such copyright has been assigned by the creator. Fortunately for the musician seeking to perform a cover, this burden is effectively relieved via the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), the non-profit collective that administers performing rights in Canada

I think generally speaking if a cover is done in goodwill as just a performance piece (not a major release or a constant thing) then most bands would probably be safe. However, legally the original artist could make some noise.
That's too bad about Blister. It's my favourite OLP song. I wonder why. Why eliminate that but keep songs Raine clearly can't perform well, like One Man Army?
Oh well. It's not like they'll ever play any old stuff again anyway beyond maybe 1 song per tour (this one being Denied). They seem to rely on their singles. They seem to always take the easy and safe road these days.

That's odd, I'm guessing the law is different in the US.
I just don't see why the band wouldn't be able to perform their own songs, or why it'd be specificlly copyrighted to Mike. I'm sure Mike would allow them to perform it anyway, as he doesn't have hard feelings against the band.

Yeah, it was just a theory. I think the law is similar in the US but may be different from state to state.

I love Mike.
I had a dream a few nights ago that I saw OLP at a fair, and only twenty people came out to watch. A little boy went onstage, and fell down, right in front of Mr. Guitarist. He stopped playing and picked the boy up and comforted him. It wasn't until after I woke up that I realized that I dreamt that Mike was playing, not Steve.
Yeah, I have odd dreams.

Try listening to music when you're falling asleep... maybe that will get your brain thinking you are at a concert... or watch the live DVD.

“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

Pretty sure these are the composers to each OLP song:
