When people say "what kind of music do u like?", I'll either say indie or AltRock. Let's say I said AltRock. They'll say, "like what". Sadly, I no longer feel comfortable saying Our Lady Peace. I hope none of you will be offended by this but i no longer think of OLP as an AltRock band. I really think that they're just a straight up pop/pop rock band now. It's not bad! But not AltRock.

So Burn Burn is good for what it is. We were/are so blinded by the excitement of this record that i realize now that i've been lying to myself. This isn't an AltRock record again or a return to the '90's or anything. It's a pop rock album, a good one, but not Alt.

4 stars.

Its ok to like, even love something that doesn't fit into whatever genre you hold dear. As a lover of music, the worst thing you can do is limit what you listen to because it doesn't fit into yours or someone else's framework of what is, and isn't good music. If Our Lady Peace makes a fantastic pop rock record, then so be it. Pop doesn't have to be a negative term. The Beatles wrote pop music for goodness sakes.

Heck, most of the bands I listen to these days are what you'd classify as "indie," but don't think for a second that I don't bust out the Kanye, or Jay-Z every now and then.

M2, I know your not saying that you dislike the new record because its pop-rock. It's pretty clear that you like it. Just don't let anyone bring you down because of it.

I have to say, you're pretty much awesome for phrasing this the way you have. I completely agree.

I hate that term, pop... I've only twice thought of Our Lady Peace as 'pop', and those being the slight majority of HIPT and "All You Did..."

Sure they've changed from more of a Grunge Rock to more of a Modern Rock... Fuck Gravity or Burn Burn being Pop/Rock, I don't see it. I don't care about the musical change in Gravity and hence forth, its still not pop/rock.

Am I the only one who likes "Life"? Spiritual Machines, overall, was a brilliant record. Yes, even "Life," as poppy as it was.

It amazes me that Spiritual Machines never saw any commercial success and is often passed as a bad record or the point at which the band started going downhill. I think people refer equally to both lack of sales and assumptions based on one single.

I also have no problem with Our Lady Peace going pop-rock. None of their records really sound the same and even Gravity and Healthy in Paranoid Times have a handful of really good songs...I just hate generic songwriting/melodies. And that's been a problem that's been infiltrating itself through the last two OLP records. I don't include Gravity because as polished as it sounded, Raine's vocals were solid and every track had a good hook. As pop-rock songs, all the tracks on Gravity stood out. Meanwhile, we have "All You Did Was Save My Life" on Burn Burn that sounds too much like "Where Are You?"...
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

LifeRiot wrote:"Elsewhere, Our Lady Peace spend Burn Burn aping Coldplay and U2. "Never Get Over You" and "The End Is Where We Being" sound particularly like Chris Martin and company. "

I wouldn't take a review serious from people who can;t spell.

aping? The end is where we being?

Chart Attack Epic Fail.

It also seems someone is jacking the Burn Burn wiki article by removing all the good reviews, and putting up only the bad. Chartattack was up up just a bit ago.

"Aping" is most certainly a word.

I've actually seen people state that they hate Spiritual Machines, simply because Gravity followed it. Ridiculous.

The good reviews are from minor outlets though. To put some of those up is ridiculous in the first place.

I thought the review was unnecessarily cynical, like they were just happy to trash OLP for the sake of being 'cool' or something. They really like to hate on the band.
