Never Get Over You - Wedding First Dance? - Opinions Please

Post by Smooke »

I need some perspective.

This song could be interpreted as a wedding song as a first dance for the Bride and Groom. As I do have a wedding on August 15th, 2009...I do need to choose a song and since this OLP song came out just in the knick of time I might be the first one to ever use it :)

Discuss? Opinions? Arguments? Premises? Conclusions? Anything? lol

Yeah definitely the best song from Burn Burn to work for a weddings song!

But I'd also consider using The Wonderful Future, man such a beautiful song, for whatever purpose lol. But TWF is probably too contrived-sounding for general listeners and for a wedding. Yeah, I dont think TWF works as a wedding song... unless you're an insane OLP fan (it will be my song :D) lol

I'm not sure... Never Get Over You (from the lyrics I've heard) seems more apologetic than a song about being in love.

Apology almost seems like a better song, to the average listener.

My wedding song is going to be 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' by U2.

No?

Depends on how someone takes it, as it could be taken as "You're not what I'm looking for, but I'll settle for you."

Never Get Over You would be a pretty terrible wedding song if you ask me. It's like you're trying to find an OLP song to make your wedding song, as opposed to just finding a good song.

Yeah OLP doesn't do weddings lol. I was trying to sing of just one song that would fit a wedding, but they don't really have any. The Wonderful Future, like I said, if for its atmospheric value only. Anything else doesn't work. 4 AM is gentle and ballad-y, but the lyric "If I don't make it, know that I loved you all along" don't fit a wedding.

I agree! I guess maybe the only OLP song for me would.... I guess 4am!?!? Maybe a Raine solo song?

Isn't the line "If I don't make it known that I've loved you all along?" Or maybe I've just been singing it wrong.

It's the former. Since it's based on the dream about his dad dying, he's just kind of saying... well, the lyrics speak for themselves.

Actually, I think officially the lyric was indeed published as "If I don't make it known that I loved you all along" (I think it was on the Clumsy CD insert), but to me the other way makes more sense, especially because of the lyric that follows: "Just like sunny days that we ignore because". The former doesn't make sense with that lyric following.

Which leads me to something I'd wanted to discuss about 4 AM... does anyone else think that in the final chorus Raine actually sings "If I don't make it, know, Dad, I loved you all along"?? I think he does, but just didn't acknowledge it in the submitted lyrics. That would be pretty cool.

I still think that it's known that.

Think of it this way...

"If I don't make it known that I've loved you all along, then I hope to God I figure out what's wrong."

The rest of the chorus is just a run on sentence.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure the lyric is "and I hope to God", not "then I hope to God"... does anyone have the Clumsy pamphlet handy to settle that?

Yeah, it's "and," but I don't think that changes too much.
