I guess I'll have to whip out my farm girl weapons. We have many a gun here. And yes, I know how to shoot them. I used to snipe gophers often.

Lando, you got the measurements wrong, damnit. Add on two and a half inches and ten pounds. I cannot be-LIEVE you!

I'm still dead though...

Aww, Laurel must be a shorty. How cute. :)

I saw a picture of her in another thread once. Probably the Oskars thread. She's very beautiful.

OUR LADY PEACE-BURN BURN
COALITION ENTERTAINMENT
WWW.MYSPACE.COM/OURLADYPEACE
RELEASE DATE: JULY 21, 2009
Rating: 4/5

It has been a damn long time since these Canadians have released another creative rock album. OUR LADY PEACE a band that put me in awe the first time I ever saw them live with a amazing beauty of musicianship and a vocalist who held a sold out crowd captivated and speechless with the versatility of his range.

BURN BURN is album number 7 and an album that is back on the Indie front. No major label to keep their creative nature down, its just these talented dudes doing what they did when they first started, bringing in magic and emotional valued melodies into there music. Each album has been an art piece of imagination, some had moody sound scapes, some had amazing lyrical value and some just rocked out and allured us with such natural talent. BURN BURN does all of that and more. A solid piece of work although I think GRAVITY is my all time favorite album of theirs but this one has really standout tracks and it all starts out with ALL YOU DID WAS SAVE MY LIFE. It rages with the signature sound of OUR LADY PEACE which is the catchy, upbeat and explosive elements. The lyrics push positive attitude to the edge; the vocals are on point but how they could not, Raine Maida encompasses everything a front man and songwriter should be. WHITE FLAGS is another fun rocking track, great guitar elements with a simple but catchy outcome. SIGNS OF LIFE has a great light rock and sleek vocals. NEVER GET OVER YOU is the bands ballad and I tend to be bias on any OUR LADY PEACE ballad probably because this voice just oozes emotion but this track really is a soothing simple and pretty track and shows the light side of the band. MONEKY BRAINS is the creative artsy flair of the record some sassy rock feeling, the changes of electric to acoustic, durable and active guitar tones and just edgy with a simple rock tone. DREAMLAND has a pretty piano beginning and has a big chorus and just the arrangement of the song is flawless. OUR LADY PEACE is stars in my heart and too many across the world and with this new album brings back what music is missing Integrity. Bravo!!!

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Someone posted that in another thread, but thanks for posting it in here.

Bringing back integrity when the woman's favorite album is Gravity? And AYD is a standout track? Lol, doubtful.

Either way though, it's nice to see the album getting some praise.

I saw Burn Burn being advertised on an HMV poster. Just one of the little ones under something more 'important'.

Another review here. From a DJ at an alternative station in Utah.

A+

Our Lady Peace
Burn Burn Burn
Available July 21, 2009

Reviewed by Todd Nuke ‘Em

I’ve always said that Our Lady Peace is somewhat underestimated and slightly unappreciated by the masses, and that might be part of their allure because when you find a gem like this, you don’t have to share it. Fortunately this band has a strong fan base in Utah and I’ll share it with you.

Burn Burn Burn arrived on my desk with little fanfare and hype, which is a nice change of pace from what major record labels sometimes present. However, Our Lady Peace very elegantly and skillfully crafted an album that could be one of their absolute best. For me, this rivals their brilliant Spiritual Machines album. You get a full spectrum of their emotional and powerful songwriting and performing talent. These guys are artists because the music hits you right in the heart. You can feel it.

Lyrically, it has to be their best. Songs like “All You Did Was Save My Life” contain great pieces of poetry like “I’m not for sale, but I’ve been sold.” In the song “Refuge” Raine Maida sings, “This human condition needs a hiding place.” My personal favorite is “Monkey Brains” which marches along with a punk rock bass line for the first 2 minutes and then launches into a beautiful slow diversion where Maida sings—quite exquisitely, I might add—“Generations trying to find a home, a thousand miles from what they know. It’s time to go.” It gave me goose bumps, and I’m a jaded old bastard when it comes to new music. It takes a lot to impress me.

This album is big. Big like Coldplay’s Viva la Vida. Big like Linkin Park’s Minutes to Midnight. This is the album U2 should have released instead of their dull failure that was foisted upon us earlier this year. Our Lady Peace still understands the need to work for a great album, and by god, they nailed it! Burn Burn Burn hits the target perfectly.

I'd believe an A+ if AYDWSML wasn't a track. :(

that was a nice little review though. I have a hard time believing it is one of their best lyrically, but the guy has heard all of their CDs but who knows.

Review from Sonic Dissonance

Rating: 2.5/5

It's been about 12 years since the last time I felt Our Lady Peace was truly relevant in modern music. Shorlty after the release of the band's second album, Clumsy, it became apparent this Canadian band was on a path for something much different than they began as.

Then, a couple of months ago, I caught wind of the band's impending released, Burn, Burn. Billed as a "return to rock" for OLP, my interest immediately peakes. Unsurprisingly, the new album isn't as electric as Naveed, and doesn't have the overall schtick of Clumsy.

Burn, Burn does, on the most basic level, show OLP returning to rock. Gone are most of the slow, lite-alternative ballads. They've been replaced with as slightly amped up lite-alternative songs.

Led by the opening track (and first single) "All You Did Was Save My Life," Burn, Burn doesn't present the same promise OLP evoked in the mid-90s. Their maturity in song-writing is more evident, as the evolution in song styles has brought the band much in terms of public adoration in the past decade or so. It's that same song-writing combined with the band's new take on their own version of rock 'n' roll.

Not to say the album is a failure. Far from it really. Burn, Burn shows OLP has the talent to still write good songs, and their ability to somewhat channel their former selves is evident on songs like "Monkey Brains" (easily the highlight of the album) where the band conjures up everything they've learned and every ounce of talent in themselves to nail a challenging song.

In a nutshell, Our Lady Peace is still going to be one of those bands that you either remember for their harder stuff early in their career, or their more subdued state later on. Burn, Burn is a simple meshing of OLP generations, and it's a quality album that presents more questions than answers for the band's future.

Yeah...as much as I love OLP, I'm not buying the A+ review. ALYDWSML is awful and would clearly knock the grade a peg or two down.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

Plus the reviewer likes Linkin Park. And Coldplay. Although I do actually like most Coldplay material, the fact that the person only listed those bands proves he's nothing more than a modern rock radio station dj. But at he least he knows which OLP album is their best.

And the last review only proves that reviews are subjective. 2.5/5 isn't a good score at all, but the reviewer points out that isn't a total failure. I don't own any albums that I would give a 2.5/5 because I would consider that a failure.

Then you generally overrate albums then.

There's no way a 2.5/5 is a total failure in most cases, especially when OLP's previous two albums fall at that rating or below in most cases.

I'm not sure what kind of a rating you're expecting out of this album. Anything above a 3/5 would be a pretty huge success for OLP.

I don't think the DJ reviewer guy was saying that he necessarily liked Linkin Park or Coldplay, but thinks it's going to rock and make waves like Viva La Vida and M2M, and shows the band adding something fresh to their sound.

Ish?

No, he does. Otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned how U2's was such a failure and not have included that those bands were always failures (again, I'm saying that sort of in jest, as I like Coldplay).

Double the rating: 5/10? 50%? I guess you can let it slide if you say it was half-good then. But I know if I ever scored a 50% on a test I was pretty screwed. That's how I have always looked at ratings. If you screwed up half of it then you pretty much screwed all of it up. I'm a glass half-empty guy when it comes to music, I guess. And if I see a 2.5 (5/10) rating on AMG or Rolling Stone or Pitchfork then I know they didn't like something either. In the case of RS or Pitchfork that might mean I'll actually like it though... which only proves this is still all subjective. The reviewer liked some of it? Good for him. I hope to like some of it, too.
