How do you mean improper? Was it that he was just using too much falsetto/high notes in his earlier days, or was it that he was fundamentally using his voice the wrong way?
I agree with you, it's normal for lots of singers to have their voices mellow down once they hit 40's-50's, but Raine's voice seems to be declining quite a bit faster then the norm.

Oh Man I hope not. SOrry. I do not like that song one bit. They did do it on the USA Gravity tour in 2002..
GEMS. For years I have been asking for Blister.. I love that song. Honestly though I can not see it being done ever again. Esp with the direction the new songs are.. Oh but to hear it one more time would be sweet.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again Teach the young people how to think, not what to think-Sidney Sugarman
Also, I had a dream last night where OLP held a private concert/interview/jam sessions in my uncle's basement. In the dream they were all jerks, especially Jeremy. They wouldn't let me take pictures, and kicked me out because I said I also liked Matthew Good.

Ummm, because this formerly great band hasn't made anything worthwhile to listen to for years.

He didn't support his voice with his diaphragm. So in essence, he just sang from his throat, which is a bad thing. Had he used proper technique back in the day, he'd probably still sound cool, albeit mellower.
I do feel really bad for Raine sometimes. Just because his old voice was a large part of OLP's old sound, and it's just something that no matter how hard he tries, he can't get back. So even if OLP manages to put out something that would please all the old fans, they still can't recapture some aspects.
But I guess you could say the same about Mike leaving the band, since every guitarist is different... I dunno. Sometimes I just feel bad for the guy, is all!
I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.
Waiting for something else,
im willing to bet raine knows more about singing and vocal techniques then everyones favorite hater johnny
I would also just like to say that the belleville show sounded great....there were a couple clams, the guys were bit rusty etc - but it was a great show and the FANS loved it - and in the end that is what matters the most - also i am not basing this on some terrible camera phone vids - i was there and heard /saw it with my own eyes and ears
BTW - cellphone / shitty cam vids don't do ANY live show justice.

If you don't think they do then why keep coming on and bashing them and wasting your time instead of finding music that you like is what im saying,...just out of curiosity what do you think of Paper moon
LifeRiot wrote:Haha, the funny thing is Muse still sound outstanding on a shitty cell phone a mile from the stage.
The Resistance baby!
Yeah, but the lead singer of Muse is 10 years younger than Raine... and Raine (and crew) sounded just as good as them back in 1999, so just see how well Bellamy sings in 10 more years.

Yeah, I agree that gems like Blister and Wonderful Future would be much better to hear than Neon Crossing, but what I should have said was that I doubt they're EVER going to play THOSE gems again, because of Raine's voice, but Neon Crossing at least has a chance of being played.

there's a quote button for that! as I guess I just demonstrated, as well as others on this page have.
Yeah, I agree... I don't like how he changes the original octave of certain parts of the songs, to make it sound less melodic and more spoken. But the whole Superman's Dead outtake from the other night was just an abomination. Superman's Dead is a rock song, not a spoken word lullaby, thank you very much. Lol.
Fair enough, but to me there are two factors that separate Raine and Bellamy:
A) The age difference... that has a lot to do with how one's voice evolves... do you see any 50 year olds singing falsetto?
B) This is the most important factor - Raine used a type of "paranoid" falsetto where his vocals always sounded gritty and he always went all over the place with the range and random sounds and yelps, and you can tell that this effect has wore down his voice. Bellamy uses just a straight-out normal falsetto, like the one we saw Raine use in A/L/S. You can't name one other singer who sang anything like Raine.

B: When his voice was like that it was great. I heard no one like him which is why I loved them. But now, honestly his voice is now almost dime a dozen. I feel kind of obligated to continue to listen to OLP though. Listening to the song so much that I will eventually like the new stuff.
Similar to the show LOST. I kind of feel obligated to watch it just to see the end of it.
