YOu know Trusty.. On "Will The Future Blam Us" I believe. There was a part that sounded very much like a keyboard till I saw it live and saw it was infact Steve on Guitar. It was the way he ran the pick up the neck of the guitar across the strings that made that sound.

Is this the same thing?

I'll maybe get some Cell Phone grabs on the 27th, but I don't know about anything else.

And did they get the inspiration from Matthew Good and the New Kids on the Block?

I never dug the right stuff, its a solid rock tune forsure, but personally i have never liked olp songs like that one,
but hey I hear some people love it, its all subjective.

Personally I don't think it would of fit well with this record, but there are quite few songs from the past few years that wouldn't. Maybe, someday, somehow, in a galaxy far far away, they could all find a home on their very own special kick ass record :)

oh, timebomb - well I dig that song, it's all olp trough and through ;)

Yeah I'm with you Trusty... when we first heard that it would be the first single back in November, I was kinda disappointed and kinda wasn't looking forward to the new album if it was going to sound like that.

To me that song sounds like it's trying to be in vein of some older OLP songs that had a straightforward message, but in the end just something about it didn't feel "OLP", it was too generic I guess. It sounded a bit like some older material but without the cryptic lyrics that made it OLP.

Anyway, so is "Time Bomb" a retooling of "Waiting for Something to Happen"?

Oh, and RELEASE A B-SIDES! I WANT TRAPEZE! lol... and TALK IS CHEAP

Oh and while you're here... do you think the band would be comfortable releasing a B-side of their older material together with their new? Like I know in interviews they often say that they appreciate their history but want to be "in the moment", so would a B-sides be just from the past 5 years or so or would they go ALL THE WAY? Because as weird as it might be to hear Trapeze alongside some new B-sides, I WANT THEM ALL! :D Oh and release a brand new single of a B-side from like 1997 that would be epic  LOL

I've wondered that myself, SA. I would be surprised if OLP did release anything pre-Gravity as an official B-side, just because of Mike. And I get that. Like showing friends pictures of your ex while your girlfriend is sitting right next to you.

Yeah, but the same could be said technically for all the Naveed songs, because Duncan wasn't a part of those. I guess they don't have the same hard feelings toward Chris Eacrett as they do Emtee though (but I'm sure Steve has no problem with Emtee), but still.

I shouldn't have listened to these...Entirely too excited for the album now.

This stuff sounds good. Production is good as well.

I think the biggest obstacle they will have is the ownership to the master recordings of all those songs. Odds are Sony owns everything through HIPT. Raine stated in one of those interviews that OLP owns all the master recordings for the Burn Burn sessions, but I'm guessing Sony owns all the rest, including the unreleased songs. With that said, it would have to be a Sony release unless some sort of agreement is reached where OLP gets fucked on pay, but can release and market what they want.

It actually surprises me that they haven't already released a B-sides album for this reason. Sony was clearly willing to release a second best-of with no real... reason or purpose. I can't even see how it would sell that well. But I bet an album filled with B-sides would do almost as well as a brand new release. Seems strange they wouldn't have tried to profit off that.

Would they need the band's consent or something to do that? I mean, at this point it's not like the two really need to maintain good relations...

For older material the most likely scenario is that OLP owns the rights to the songs, Sony owns the rights to the master tapes of studio sessions that they paid for. Neither party could release those recordings without the others' permission; however, OLP could re-record and release any old song that is their intellectual property even if Sony has the copyright on some other recording of the same song. I think the bigger issue is other people who may partially own rights to the songs (Mike, Arnold, Jamie, and Bob). Specifically Mike. And possibly Arnold.

I think the fact that they were able to get the Live album approved probably suggests that Mike and Lanni, at the very least, aren't a barrier to OLP releasing pre-Gravity music that's been re-recorded.

I truly think the big issue is that the new-OLP would really like to put their pre-Gravity selves behind them, and acknowledging their older music with a B-sides would probably undermine that.

It's still the same 30 seconds though. It's a nice Duncan quote though.
