Apology was one of the first songs they made back in Hawaii when they went back the first time, and underwent a lot of work until the final version.

Apology is probably my least favourite OLP song. It grinds on me... "You-oo, ah-ah-aaaare, my, li-ih-iiiife..."

*Shudders.*

And yeah, that new song does sound interesting, indeed.

I only saw it performed live once, and thought it came across very well.

Apology probably ranks among the highest of songs on HIPT for me. Everyone keeps saying how Al Genina was good but that one is probably my least favorite OLP song, period.

I loved Al Genina when I got HiPT. I still really love A/L/S, Love and Trust, and Boy.

Am I the only one who really likes World on a String? I really dig what they did with that song. ALS, Al Genina and Apology are also stand out for me.

I actually hear a lot of Clumsy-era OLP in World on a String. Bouncier than any of that stuff, for sure, but it just sounds similar to me.

I'm also a fan of World on a String. It may be poppy as hell, but it's still a good song.

world on a string, apology and picture are the only songs i liked from HIPT A LOT. A/S/L was cool though. I was actually listening today to HIPT and it's not THAT bad if you just want to hear "summery songs". i cant believe i just said that.

am i the only person here who likes not afraid?
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

I don't love it, but I liked it all right, yeah. I think it helped that I didn't hear the Juno version first. Studio was my first exposure to it.

I like Not Afraid, especially the second verse

By the way, to everyone, how is Paper Moon comparing to some of your old OLP favorites? How high is it up there?

I loved Not Afraid when they performed at the Juno's, but the studio version was really watered down. Pretty disappointing.

paper moon is a very good song. A great song to end the album.

Honestly, Paper Moon is an amazing song but it's not one that I can listen to all the time because of the 1-minute solo guitar moment. It's one of those songs you just love at the end of an album during a whole listen. The verses are amazing and so is the chorus, but it's a very end song that you can't listen to it more than 1000 times in a row ;)
"I'll never get over you."

I didn't mind World on a String, but the lyric "I see the world on a beach, it's sinking in the sand" makes me cringe. That's probably why I skip over that song when it comes up on my playlist. It's bouncy and catchy, though; a lesser of all evils.

World on a String has a really, really catchy chorus. The rest is ok. No matter what you say about Raine's writing or whatever, they can make a catchy hook.

I think it has something to do with the sound of live recordings. I love live records. I love the full sound and the cheering. That stuff has the most force.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

Some live recordings are so much more intense then the album version. In the case of Not Afraid, all the raw energy and emotion I thought would come across on the studio version was removed in favour of weak guitars, a xylophone and "pop" production. It was catchy, but the live version just smoked it.

Speaking of which...time to hit the bong.

God.

Apology *vomit*

Easily the most super emo song I've ever heard. period.

Raine comes off as a love sick emo puss cake in it and I literally picture him crying and sobbing as he wrote the lyrics.
Professional Canadian.
