Raine radio interview and full Paper Moon audio

Post by Earthless »

Raine was interviewed by Susan Marie on Think Twice Radio and it starts off with the full Paper Moon song. You can download it here, under June 11:

Paper Moon is just amazing!
She's looking for some courage
She feels faithless, she feels earthless
She wants to run
She's strugglin' for purpose
I tell her hang in you know it's worth it
You've just begun
You've just begun

something is totally wrong with my media player, hah. i started listening to it and thought "wow, the guitars are really slowed down and odd sounding"...and then the vocals started..and the song is like half the speed it's supposed to be. wtf? haha. it sounds hilarious though :P

Man... Steve went off on that track.

Great record. Hopefully this is an indication of what awaits on Burn Burn.

To reiterate what I said before, "Wow."

I've been an OLP fan since 1995 and this may be the one of the best songs I have ever heard from the band.

Rippppp? It's gorgeous, I can't believe how ... honestly, original it is. Well, old-school brilliance that doesn't exist original. Have it up soon.

So how long is this song? The Sony thing said 3:54, but this was 6 minutes long...

It's 3:54, not six. I don't get why it says six. Time slows down on the internet.

Wow, that was pretty awesome. They haven't made a song this beautiful in quite some time.

Man this is a great song!!! But damn it do I ever miss how Raine's voice used to be an instrument in of itself.... he really could have done so much more with the "at all, at all, at all" part with some crazy falsetto screams. Oh well, still awesome.

He can't do it like that anymore.

Well I don't think we've figured out for sure yet whether he can't or whether he no longer wants to.

Well when he plays live it's really hard for him. Superman's Dead he changed to la la la cause he couldn't hit the note, now there's an instrumental in place of that. I think he can't do it like he used to, but he can hit it for the nasal sounds to begin with. Too lazy, it's all about morphology and phonetics.

We see Raine use it to the extreme every now and then. Plus TW already gave off the notion that he doesn't use it as much anymore because he didn't want to be pinned down as just that voice.

Yeah, I getcha. You're probably right. I just wonder if it was a natural aging thing or if it had to do with the conscious change to a baritone type voice with Gravity. Because to have had such falsetto range just back in 2001 like for the Wonderful Future and not be able to do it at all today is quite a change.

But if it was due to the conscious directional change in 2002, then you'd think he'd be able to get back to it if he tried. But maybe it's just a combination of both the conscious voice change and aging/wearing of the voice.

Comes a time when you get turned around
and life itself just wears you out, but,
you keep getting ready for the big parade.

Oh you shine your shoes and you fake a smile,
salute the players with that famous style
‘cause keeping up has kept you in chains.

I was thinking that if you know a way out
then I’d like to go with you.

We can burn out like candles under that paper moon…

They just don’t know anything at all…
They just don’t know anything at all…

You’ll find traffic jams and big TVs’
and hipsters trapped in their own irony, but,
you finally think about settling down

Oh you quit your job and you sell your car
you burn your clothes and pray to the stars
‘cause you swore to God that you’d never end up this way.

I was thinking that if you know a way out
then I’d like to go with you.

We can burn out like candles under that paper moon…

They just don’t know anything at all…
They just don’t know anything at all…
At all
At all
At all
At all

Comes a time when you get turned around
and life itself just wears you out, but,
you keep getting ready for the big parade.
