Obviously this guy doesn't follow the band that much, or he would have heard of Monkey Brains. He doesn't even begin to think that it might not have been a conscious decision from the band, or that it might have been Sony's way of reacting to the low sales of Spiritual Machines.
While I agree that a lot of the 2002 songs and forward are too radio-ready (I don't like to say "poppy" because a lot of Clumsy through Spiritual Machines had pop-appeal, but in a good way), but to say the band doesn't put an effort forward is highly doubtful.

...to the Lennon-man
He obviously doesn't have working ears either, which could very well be the reason for the bad review

So it's good for you, and it's good for me, and it's good for everybody? Oh Trustworthy, I knew you had the right stuff.

I was looking at old OLP MySpace blogs, and found one from late 07. One part of it that Steve described sounds a bit like Monkey Brains, more specifically, the bridge and after the bridge.
"Another one where the main lick is on piano. Don't worry we're not going soft on you. Think Innocent kind of vibe but with massive piano. Then big fuzzy guitar comes in soloing all over the place."
Not saying it's Monkey Brains, just that it somewhat describes it. Maybe this evolved into Monkey Brains.

R: All of the drum takes [on Spiritual Machines] were done in, like, one or two takes. A lot of the bass stuff was like that. I did my vocals at home. It was just captured energy.
J: What we were trying to accomplish was five guys in a room just playing together.
Sounds familiar, but I can't put my finger on it...

Yes in "Are You Sad?" and "Right Behind You(Mafia)" the drummer is Matt Cameron actual Pearl Jam's drummer.

I kind of found it odd that now the situation has been switched around. Jer was mugged so Soundgarden/Pearl Jam's drummer Matt Cameron had to fill in. Now Pearl Jam's bassist was mugged outside of the studio, and was stabbed in the back of the head (may have just been hit, but I'm pretty sure I saw it said he was stabbed). It'd be kind of cool if Duncan could have filled in for him.
