I'm on the fence - and it's nothing like Naveed - but it's a killer pop rock song. I will give them that. Pop rock or not, they still have a knack for pushing all the right buttons at all the right moments.

You could be right, but in my opinion these pop anthems that OLP has been leading with on the last few albums really run the risk of becoming "too generic", even for radio. I think Innocent gets radio play because it has such smooth harmonies that play together and it is just so damn catchy that people like it anyways. Innocent is a 1 in a million though, and even Raine admits that it was one of his personal accomplishments that he came up with years ago. If I recall correctly, Where Are you (which is a lot like AYD) didn't do very well at all ...I'm guessing because it sounded just too generic.

As has been mentioned on here, I think the easiest way to get loads of radio-play is with pop ballads like SOT (and even 4AM has a bit of that).

i dont know if anyone said this but i know it's gonna help OLP a lot since they had shena grimes(sp?) in their video. 90210 is a huge show in America that has the teen audience and so many young girls and guys (im sure) love her and are gonna flock to this video cause shes in it. not to mention degrassi fans as well...

i didn't like the video personally. raine looked a little bored? so did jeremy in some shots.. i don't know though. i do like the song a lot now, the HQ version totally sold me. i hope they get a lot of airplay in the states because i know theyll have another SOT on their hands.
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Just thinking out loud here: It seems like the new video could almost serve as a trailer to Twilight. If you kept the footage of the band, and changed the other footage from the video of the girl running, and replaced it with essentially the same scene from twilight, you'd have a video/song for the twilight soundtrack.

Please don't kill me for noticing this.
The Worlds a Blister, but i'm okay with it

Codes, you seem to be the most critical of AYD, I'm just wondering what you think of Monkey Brains? Do you like it? What is your opinion on the "slow-down" part near the end? We've heard a studio version clip of this part from .NET... I really don't like it :( lol

I love Monkey brains, I think it has the most potential out of all the songs we've heard so far to actually put a nostalgic smile on my face. I actually like the slow down part, kinda reminds me of supermans dead in a way.

Butttttttttttttttttttt the biggest question is how did it turn out in the studio? remember guys i actually liked the AYD live version, my dislike is how it turned into a "Not Afraid" version

Yeah, I really love the March live version as opposed to the NYE live version... so much more energy and I hope they capture this in the studio.... goddamn do i ever hope they do... but give AYD's studio conversion I cant be too sure

Trustworthy saying this is his least fav song on the cd gives me a bit of hope, but again, the guys in the band, or close to the band aren't going to come right out and say negative things about a song or cd.

The biggest thing though, is a lot of people who like the bands older stuff is now expecting a Naveedish sounding cd, now the rest of the material might be, but when you lead off with a single that is so close to the material of the past two cds, you might be putting a giant wall up now.

Yeah, well we've already heard 5 of the 10 songs on the CD in some live form, and those are not similar to Naveed at all, except Monkey Brains in some way... but that's fine with me.

Trustworthy thinks AYD is is least favorite? What about Right Stuff, surely this song is better than that one?

The thing is i dont think they ever said it would "sound like naveed". all they said was that the way they recorded it, with no label, just 4 guys creating something in a room and capturing it at the moment it feels good and not overthinking it and stuff...that how it is going to be like naveed.

Keep in mind that the reality is that Steve is a different person than Mike. I think both of them are amazing...but they are different people and so they are different writers...OLP without Raine wouldnt be the same would it?

Also, no album has ever sounded like any other album that they have ever done. I personally dont want a Naveed Part 2...I want Burn Burn...the seventh studio album from my favourite band...I love that they always sound different and that they are still able to be a top notch Canadian rock band after all these years...their longevity alone must mean they are doing something right.

As for the new stuff...from what I have heard, I really like it. My guess is Dreamland is gonna be a smash hit, and I really think White Flags should be a single too.

ROCK ON OLP!!!!
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

I will , if I have something negative to say then i will, but right now i have nothing negative to say about this single (aside from those harmonies being too loud in my opinion) the video (aside from the one shot of just raine standing there - it looks strange) or the record (aside from the fact i don't have my own fully mastered copy yet)

:)
