was there a new song? is it gold or garbage? is it the single?

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

New single is called "All You Did Was Save My Life", will be released May 25. We've heard both a clip of the studio version and a clip of a studio SESSION (at ourladypeace.net), and the general opinion of the song is that it's very generic and uninspired. It;s also basically a second "Not Afraid", where the energy from the live performances we've seen of the song has been diluted in the studio; the song is bland, Raine's voice is uninspired. But as with all mainstream generic songs, it's pretty catchy.

... his hair is giant in that picture, though.I don't remember it being quite that large. What a great night that was.
I dropped by Fran's last week for the first time since that day and got the cheddar apple pie, it was almost as sweet as getting to meet Steve and Joel. I was so surprised that they came back for us, it would have sucked to have carried that sign around the entire day and not have gotten it signed and it was all thanks to you lovely CMers!

Can Raine even do the falsetto anymore? Back during the New Years Eve concert it sounded like Raine was really struggling to hit the higher notes in his older music. Frankly, it was almost painful to listen to. I was kind of figuring that this is why the supporting vocals are playing such a big part in the new music.
Somebody on here was mentioning that singing from your "throat" for a long period of time will damage your voice? I think that might be what's happening here.
Personally I don't mind the lack of a falsetto, I think the supporting vocals are a great way to make up for it.
frogger wrote:Dude it was really cold that day, Pavoratti would have struggled to hit notes that night. Besides, the acoustics were terrible and most people weren't really there for an epic concert. We just wanted to drink and enjoy some good tunes.
Sorry, not trying to criticize the concert. It was amazing, the songs were amazing, and the rip was amazing...I really enjoyed listening to it.
You can here similar issues from Raine's voice during OLP's busking in October as well (see In Repair on youtube).

I still believe he can. Frogger brought up the issues of the NYE show. Plus, when you listen to different moments of Healthy, he seems to hit it pretty easily. While the falsetto is no Car Crash, I think it shows he can still pull it off. The higher-pitched chorus of A/L/S, the "ooo-hoo's" at the beginning of WTFBU, a few moments at the end of Wipe That Smile (it sounded really good in there), and one of the "don't go's" in Apology. There may be a few more moments, but those are the ones at the top of my head.
Trustworthy also made some comments on it a few days ago. I'm taking his word for it, as he seems to be close to the band (if not in the band), but he implied that Raine backed away from it from it so that his voice wouldn't be looked at as just the falsetto and that he wanted to be known for other things. I also think the more mainstream sound that the band went into didn't have much room for the falsetto, as US radio stations wouldn't welcome his high-pitch yells, no matter how epic they are.
That being said, I don't think falsetto would fit well with the "I'm not dying." I kind of played through it in my head, and it just didn't seem natural to me. I do agree though, that part bugs me quite a bit. I'm not a fan of the way it was just his voiced heavily layered to give it an "intense" effect, even though it doesn't seem to have much emotion in it. I think it would sound better if instead it had Raine yelling it with ample emotion like a Naveed-ish yell or like the second "I'd die for you" on Don't Stop, with maybe a second recording of his voice doing it sounding a little different (or Duncan backing it).

I actually didn't know that...thanks for clarifying

I also probably shouldn't be basing my observations on outdoor concerts...

Actually, if you search for videos on Youtube, there are a few from an outdoor (wintertime) concert in 1999 or so, and Raine's voice gets pretty bad in some parts; of course he could still reach the high notes better back then but I'm just pointing out that weather's definitely a factor.
