I have to say, even with that small amount of total votes, I'm surprised that they are winning by that much. The other songs have been on the radio for a little while and have had a chance to build a buzz. This video is pretty much the first time the song was heard and is already in first place by quite the margin.

People are desperate for some new OLP. It's been 4 years - even my MOM is an OLP fan and wanted to hear it pretty badly. Haha, she prefers the newer stuff, but likes the easy listening oldies like 4 AM, Thief and Clumsy.

I've actually turned my mother into an OLP fan too, lol. She enjoys the older stuff, mainly because she's only heard Gravity once and I haven't played Healthy too often when she's around. Her favorites are the softer songs too I'd say, and she seems to enjoy either Happiness and Spiritual Machines the most (it's odd to see her sing Everyone's a Junkie).

Is it just me or does the finalized studio version sound a bit faster (i.e. higher tempo) than the original that we'd heard on The Strombo Show?? Do you think maybe Trustworthy let the band know how we felt about the pacing? I'm listening to the version from OLP.net & MySpace. I'm not home so I can't compare it to the Strombo Show version side-by-side. Can anyone else?

Not from what I can tell. It might be. Maybe you're just getting more used to it, and less used to the live version. I don't know though.

Could be that as well... I can't listen to the live version either because Youtube is blocked at work :(... imagine that, these people actually want me to work, not watch videos!

Hehe, yeah, well I'm listening to the full song more and I really like the part starting at 2:46, the buildup/bridge there is pretty good, and I like the explosion of Raine's voice. For some reason that part reminds me of Saul... don't ask me why... really, dont lol...

Everything else aside, I do believe that Raine actually made an effort to make his lyrics more descriptive in this song then what we've seen in a while:

"I'm starting to come around, the dogs are backing down...I'm not afraid to see...The devil's gone underground, this tightrope's been cut down...and I can finally breathe"

I mean obviously this is no "Is Anybody Home", but it's nice to see Raine actually being a little less direct (dare I say cryptic?) then what we saw in much of the last two albums.

There's no way we would have seen a bridge like that if Bob Rock was still producing.

Yeah, and Raine addresses this in a 2008 interview:

Interviewer: It seemed like you were trying to become a more direct lyricist even before this album - the last few Our Lady Peace albums weren't nearly as metaphorical as what you were doing on Naveed or Spiritual Machines.

Raine: Yeah, I know. That's something that I'm struggling with. I might be able to get back to that place. I think that was definitely Bob Rock trying to push me in that direction. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that, to be honest.

It's sad how he said he only "might be able" to get back to that place. That's how much of an influence Bob Rock had on his voice and his musical artistic ability. I think it's the main reason we've seen less creativity (i.e. divergence from the mainstream) in the newer albums, although from the songs I've heard in Burn Burn they've got some of it back.

I also think he said that he prefers "hiding behind the music." Hopefully we'll see some of that on Burn Burn.

Yeah, but let's not forget that most of what made the cryptic lyrics work was his voice. Think of a song like Blister/Car Crash, it would sound nothing special without the very special voice mannerisms Raine put into it. Just the whole song structure and his voice working together.

The video does very little for me. The song, however, sounds like it has a legitimate chance at being fucking huge.

I'm on the fence - and it's nothing like Naveed - but it's a killer pop rock song. I will give them that. Pop rock or not, they still have a knack for pushing all the right buttons at all the right moments.
