I hope to god they aren't, but I'm sure either they are or someone's at least telling them what's being said. They don't need to be reading the knee-jerk reaction from most people because of hearing the live performance first. Yeah, I know some people surely don't like it just because they don't like it, but that's normal. THIS overly negative reaction is not.

That's why I stopped reading for a while until it all dies down. I knew that as soon as the single hit people would be bitching about how shitty OLP is, and apparently I'm right, and since I don't come to a fansite to read that, I just didn't bother coming on.

You know, I really want an interviewer to sit down with OLP one day and have a frank discussion about their shift in musical styles from Gravity onwards. I would like to know exactly why this band did a 180 back in 2002 and why they have stuck with this change for what's probably going to be three albums now.
I think a lot of the anger on this thread is a result of the fans simply not understanding why OLP made such a dramatic change in the first place. I have no doubt that loosing Lanni and Turner were the major contributors...but what prompted this in the first place?
I'm yet to hear anybody answer this question, and I think this results in a lot of uncertainty among the fans with regards to where the band is going and why.

I doubt we'll ever get that answer. Remember, none of us are in the driver's seat. It isn't our art...it's theirs. You are, however, free to critique it all you like while keeping in mind that your opinion ranks no higher than anyone else's, and vice versa. The band has to ask themselves honestly if they are satisfied with what they created. If yes, then they move forward. If no, then you know the drill.

I think the band settling down has a lot to do with it, and Raine working with pop artists like Lavigne and working with War Child. This along with Bob Rock has certainly affected his view on things. I like the new single, just think its a bit too slow. That really bugs me.
—Doesn't anybody ever know—

Even though I said I didn't like the song in my previous post, my only real problem is the chorus. It's dead to me, and the chorus could've really saved this song in my opinion. Instead, it just drags it down.
I'm still looking forward to hearing the album, but now I do feel a bit more discretionary on how and when I hear it. Make of that what you will.

I have no recollection of the live version (I think I listened once while I was half-asleep) so I have no bias. The clip they played on the radio doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't stand out from the average pop rock song on the radio. Or rather, the songs that don't even get played on the stations here because they're uninteresting.
That may be harsh but I think it's accurate. I'm withholding judgement on the full song and the album until I hear it (with the last couple albums the singles have not been my favorite anyway), but the bar has been set low by providing this clip as a sneak preview.
There's probably so much negative reaction because a lot of people expected a different sound from post-Bob Rock OLP.

um, well all i can say is dont base your opinion pf the record off one song
Just have a listen to the whole thing back to front when it drops - it's a proper record that will take you a while to absorb and process...which to me is the mark of something special.
not to give anything away but this is not old olp and its not the "new olp" - this is different , very different.

So, my girlfriend and I are going on a road trip about 8 days before this record hits. So I'm gonna have to pick it up at a record store in probably Nevada or some southwest place like that. Then we'll go ahead and listen as we drive, and okay, I'm still the smallest bit excited about this album. I keep forgetting we have a release date. It's such a weird feeling.
I have to contain myself now.
