Don't forget...bands need to evolve, so saying old OLP means you just kinda wanna get stuck in the past and not evolve yourself.
one of the reasons I love Bloc Party is that they force me to evolve my listening style. Flux would never have been a song i liked, nor would Ares or Mercury, but I have grown to not just like the songs, but also appreciate the workmanship behind them.
With that said, I do feel that one of the things that has made OLP great is the fact that for albums 1-4, each one had a 100% different sound than the one before it. 5 is different as well, but 6 sounds a lot like 5. The new single sounds in line with these, their newer sound.
I loved Gravity when it came out, but have come to loath it. But recently I've been listening to it, and honestly, it's not that bad of an album. Still better than what most bands can put out. Bad OLP is still better than any crap on the radio (I live in Maryland, so this holds very true).
I've been a hardcore OLP fan for 10 years now...ever since I heard Theif for the 1st time (though I did own clumsy). This song was not the total abomination that it's being made out to be.

I haven't seen anyone in here saying they want the old style back. I've seen people say they want Lanni back, which is because that's when the band is at their best. What people have been saying is that they want creativity and energy back in the music, not necessarily the old sound back.
Also, since you brought it up, I'd like to say that I don't see how Gravity and Healthy even sound remotely similar. Those two albums always get lumped together because they're the two worst efforts and the two albums that Bob Rock produced. However, they have very different sounds. Gravity was about direct lyrics, deeper vocals, soft verses/loud chorus, lack of stand-out drums and bass, and some attempts at heavy guitar. Healthy was about making a statement, trying (although not really completely succeed) at diversifying vocals), softer melodic guitars, and Jer standing out a bit more on drums. Two very different albums.

Gravity and Healthy sound more similar in sound than any of the other albums do, which is where said thought came from.
And I would think that from the untrained OLP listener's ear, they would sound strikingly similar.
I'm actually a huge fan of Healthy, minus the song "Sorry"
Though neither of those albums have anything on Spiritual Machines or Happiness

So I just listened to... parts of it. And I have nothing really new to add. I didn't like it, that's for sure. It seems like someone just went and castrated the song. People can rip the last two albums all they want and I'll be right there with them for a lot of the harsh words spoken over them. But there is a lot on both albums I liked, and even with a song like "Where Are You," you at least get the sense that the band was trying, even if it was a failed attempt. You might also wonder what the hell the band was thinking, but at least they were thinking. It doesn't seem like they were on this song. I don't think they were thinking of anything. Post-Spiritual Machines, this is probably the least interesting song I've heard by the band.
And isn't this the album opener? Wow, I have really liked the album openers of all their albums. They generally are some of my favorite songs on the album (or in the case of All for You, the only song on the album that I would say I "love"). Not anymore.

Raine's production is very pop oriented. It's a little shocking and I agree about the song being slowed/watered down but it still has some energy. It is very catchy and Raine's voice sounds much better than their last album. I'm hoping the rest of the album is a little more rock oriented.
I actually think the song is step up from "Where Are You" which is one of the worst songs they've ever produced IMO.

I don't know a whole lot about production, or anything really, but when Raine did the two Marianas Trench songs on their Masterpiece Theatre album (Perfect and a duet called Good To You), it seemed to be fine. Now, that's going for a pop-oriented band, and a good chunk of that record is radio-friendly, save for the super ballads and Masterpiece Theatre I, II, and III.
That's irrelevant, I guess, but the production seemed to be fine to me.
I can't add a whole lot. I hate being so hard on the song, but... meh, I was not impressed and mob psychology may have taken a toll on me.
And I agree with whoever said it... it could be the "Life" of BB. Life was very bouncy and had a different feel and style than the rest of Spiritual Machines. That song makes me think of the colour yellow (don't know why...)
I still believe! An album is bound to have a dead track or two, rather unfortunately.

Really? I think of light blue when I hear it.
Yes, my head associates colors with the sounds of songs.
I edited the song, and honestly, it's so much better having a more complete version. We don't have enough information to make a full judgment, so with my edit I've made it so that the song is a minute longer. You won't notice the edits.
Try it out.

ouch, the songs fairly taken a beating on here. thinking theres been a bit of an over reaction to be honest. preferred the energy of the live version obviously, but usually do when it comes to olp. saying that, i quite enjoyed the song. and if i'm not mistaken jer said this song was made, at a late late stage of production, because they wanted an upbeat song on bb. this says to me that they needed a leading single, and they've got a good radio friendly song here.

I've just listened to the clip quite a few more times and, yup, I like it. Quite a bit.
I know, big shocker there coming from me.

Great job Teedus
Gotta admit hate the title of the song. But the song is stuck in my head. And thats a good thing. You certainly wouldnt of found this song on the Naveed record. Not sure why they keep bring up sounding like Naveed.
I thought Where Are You was a horrible choice for first single. This definitely is more radio friendly. Wanna hear more of the album before I judge the album. But AYDWSML gets a 6/10 from me, so far.
Catchy but cement shoes is stupid. Lyrics that make you cringe
