There's nothing wrong with poppy. People forget that a poppy sound and creativity can go hand-and-hand. Any band that is known today as legends, they had some degree of pop to them, otherwise people wouldn't keep listening. It's just when you favor what's radio-friendly and bland over something creative with great hooks is when you have the problem. Which has been OLP's problem for about 7 years now, and now more than ever.

And the funny thing is I'm still extremely pumped for the album, and that's probably just because it's OLP with new material. Imagine if we knew it was GREAT material! I'd be shitting myself! But anyway, I still very much look forward to hearing Monkey Brains, White Flags, Dreamland and Paper Moon (I like the title).
Who knows? Maybe "All You Did" is like their "Life" of the Burn Burn album? A radio-friendly song in an otherwisely-themed CD. Although "Right Stuff" would counter that point.... but at least they can't make that song any WORSE in the studio... or can they?
I dunno, just trying to bring spirits up here.

Certainly possible, unfortunately, although I can't see how it would be possible for Monkey Brains to be toned down as much as All You Did has been... if Raine sings the "I'm coming after you" part in a really low, slow, uninspiring voice in the studio version I'm probably going to snap. That part is basically the only classic OLP feel I got out of any of the new songs.
And the absolute worst part about these songs (that we've heard so far) is that there's absolutely no guitar solos or parts where Raine isn't singing... these were staples of past songs and are staples of any good song.

Like I said, I don't see why this song would have the crappy production and the others wouldn't. Like with Life, it didn't have bad production, it's lyrics were just kind of corny (even though I'm still a fan of the song). If Life had a completely different production style, and the rest of Spiritual Machines was ace like it truely is, then we could see another chance of this. Sadly, that's not the case.

i've cut out the talking in my edit and tried my best to push the guitars forward before it becomes a 'tinny' mess, if anybody would like the original without talking just ask Cheers.

The Right Stuff works much better as a fast tempo cut. But, I can just see them laying the "All You Did.." production on it.

Yeah, I'm really starting to dig the song actually (the fast version), but I can't get over how unnaturally slow paced the actual studio version is. If we could somehow get them to speed the song's tempo up before the release, I'd be ecstatic. The fast-tempo studio version is great, IMO.

Well, I give them credit. They still know how to make radio friendly music, though the music itself mindless, generic, boring and un-inspired. I do not understand why Raine's mediocre voice is layed so prominently over everything else, especially the guitar. And that in itself leads me to my next point....
Where is this "must have, in your face" guitar player of theirs? Granted,w we've only heard 90 seconds worth of studio material, but the guitar lines just seem so flat, uninspired and just plain boring. Which leads me to believe that Steve is just a horrible musician OR is being mis-used and his style doesn't mesh with the music.

Professional Canadian.

If it's that bothersome then just speed the song up every time you listen to it. We've only heard two minutes off the album and it's already being ripped to shreds.

Oh come on, guys, it's not THAT bad.
I think the band should really just not play new songs live or something, because I think that's a lot of the problem people are having with this... I know personally I feel like the chorus should be faster, but I know it's only because I'm used to the live version.
Ahh, well. Still looking forward to the album (and this full song), personally.

I didn't actually ever listen to the live version--I tried, but I dunno, I guess I just suck at listening to live recordings, because I couldn't really make anything out. But it still sounds unnaturally slow to me. I dunno.
Anyway, I've been listening to Gravity more lately, and this wouldn't fit anywhere near there, I don't think. I feel like Gravity still did a good job of having a hard edge, it just wasn't... OLP-edge. This... I dunno. The closest thing I can relate it to is Will the Future Blame Us, but even that had some distinguishing features (the oo-hoos, and I like the lyrics even if they're kinda direct).
I'm disappointed in that I adored Raine's solo album and so figured even if he went in that direction with OLP, I'd still be interested. But this is... not that direction, nor any I really expected OLP to take.
Eh. Not awful. Just, as others have said, kinda bland. Still gonna buy the album, still gonna play it a hundred times the first day I get it. But not loving this particular song, at least not on my first listen-through.

I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.
Waiting for something else,

Stuck inside of this.
Waiting for something else,

Really no better or worse then "Innocent"/"Where Are You". I agree that the song is definitely a let-down...it's clear that when Raine said that this album would be a return to Naveed, he had no idea what it was about Naveed which made it great.
I remember reading, on this board, the phrase: "passing of a genius". I think I truly understand what that means now.

I haven't posted in here in a while. But this album for me is basically make or break. I listened online to the song, it started, and when Raine sang, I basically concluded that they broke. It pains me to say it, but I think I am done with OLP. Meaning I won't be checking boards, caring about news ect. The lyrics are so bad, the production is like an instrumental, and some douche is singing along that kind of sounds like the lead singer from the band being covered. Sorry guys, (claps hands like casino dealer) I'm out.
