I had to wait in line at The Rivoli for 3 hours to get in. We got there around 9, and didn't get in until 12, right when the band was starting. It was like -10 out. Kinda rough.

Anyways, a pimp and a hooker went right to the front of the line while we were in hour 2 of waiting, and got in because apparently he was on the guest list. I had no idea The Rivoli had a guest + escort policy. She then ended up standing beside me and screaming all through the show.

In conclusion, hookers love OLP.

Are the backing vocals similar to "Monkey Brains"? And can anyone send me the song somehow? I don't have access to Youtube.

Dom! What are you talking about, you look adorable in that pic. :)

And I was worried you'd out-creepied me in a picture with a member of OLP, but me and Jeremy still reign supreme!

*wishes this download would hurry the heck up*

Yeah, the song's pretty good, but I'll be honest that I'm not feeling much creativity from most of their new stuff here. Most of the hits are sounding like radio-friendly hits ala Gravity & some of HIPT.

And "Monkey Brains" to me feels like it has SO MUCH potential, but the song as we've heard it doesn't feel like it's reaching the potential that it could be. To me the album cover conveys a "classic OLP"-like image that the music's not equaling up to. I dunno, I hate to talk this way because I know some people here don't like it but I just want to express how I feel.

Now don't get me wrong, I am still major pumped for the album :)... and the songs are still great... just not as unique and against the mainstream norm as the big 4 were.

I agree that this song hardly sounds Naveed-era-ish, but I really think that people are misinterpreting Raine's quote. He didn't ever say that they were going to go back to Naveed's style of music, did he? I think he just said that they were getting back to that level of energy and independence, and I would argue that songs like this and "Monkey Brains" definitely convey that fact.

It's hardly post-grunge or late 90s alternative music, but I really wasn't hoping for that. We've been there, done that. This song sounds to me like nothing they've ever done before, it's catchy as hell, and it has a tonne of energy. I can't ask for much more than that. :)

Well, the Big 4 weren't against the mainstream, as they were very popular in their time. They just displayed more creativity despite being so well-received in Canada.

Yeah, you guys make good points... and I know it probably seems like I'm just going through the classic motions of "old OLP is better than new OLP", and maybe I just need to get over it. I need to let this music grow on me, and I need to trust the band and put more faith in it.

We're all aloud to have our doubts. I even have some, and some of these songs further them, some of them make me a little relieved. One of my main worries is that it will sound like Healthy (although I actually like Healthy) because a good portion of those songs we've heard sound like it. As far as the sound of the album goes, I'm hoping for the creativity and charm of those first four, along with their music journeying into uncharted areas for them.

Exactly. I agree. I want back the creativity and uniqueness of the big 4, not necessarily the style of music. I want their music to evolve, but I don't want them to be Nickleback.

I don't think we have to worry about that though. The closest encounter to that rubbish OLP had was Gravity, and despite the overproduction and uninspired lyrics, I still find it far better than anything in that genre.

Yeah, and I'm digging the backing vocals that they have in some of the new songs... I think it's Steve but it could be Duncan... or both. That's definitely a unique element added to the new music.

I'm not so sure about the pauses in some of the songs that they've been doing though... where Raine does a little bit of direct non-melodical speech like he did in his solo album. It kinda slows down the pace of the song and gets you out of the rhythm. And of course on that note, I also miss his falsetto voice... it was like an instrument in itself.

Anyway, sorry for the negativity... I know the album will be great and I'm still pumped as ever.

One of my main problems with the new songs is Jer's drumming style. In some songs it sounds like he's doing the same rhythm. It's all so straight-forward, and doesn't really have that "wow" factor. He even displayed a little bit of that in Healthy, but I haven't heard a lot of it yet, except in parts of Monkey Brains.

I also read in an interview from the Clumsy area that the songs usually start off softer until Jeremy comes in on drums, and everything goes up a few levels. I'm wondering if that happened with the recording of Burn Burn...

Yea, this album's probably not going to be the big return to their older style.

That said, this album is definitely going to rock a lot more. I think the biggest complaint about HIPT is that it wasn't a "true" rock album. I think it's fair to say that this isn't going to be a problem this time around.
