The album is recorded. That is, all that is left is packaging and marketing.

I get that it's recorded, but doesn't it need to go through mixing and whatnot after the recording?

well, if you want it to sound how it was meant to sound, and inturn melt your face right off your freaking head, then yes, you will have to wait for the mix/master
