After hearing a few songs live I'm not surprised with the album length. Most songs sound like they are 3-4 minutes. I was hoping for more songs but I guess they pared it down to the ones they like best.

I would love to get a B-sides album at some point. I know they don't want to release some songs.....all I have to say is........come on........come on.

Ack.

Not digging the title change... I think the other title would be more fitting in their current situation where they've broken away from the corporate grip, but oh well.

In addition... how is it officially spelled?

"Burn, Burn"
or
"Burn Burn" (with no comma)?

I wanted to know 'cause I'm doing all the editing and updating on Wikipedia.

burn burn sounds like some emo good charlotte band album title, not something creative like the old days of OLP.

I'm guessing Sony owns a lot of the rights to their previous work, so the likelihood of seeing non-album tracks *should* go up from here. I think we'll see a couple of non-album songs pop up on iTunes.

Don't complain about the album being only 38 minutes long. Some of the best albums I own are under 40 minutes long. Hell, some of the best albums I own are under 35 minutes. I'd say it's only disappointing because it's been so long since their last album that I feel they should have more decent material than that. But remember, it's definitely quality over quantity...

Oh totally. I just wasn't expecting such a short album from OLP. Surprised me.

It's been a while since OLP has titled their album after (presumably) a song on the album.

I admit that "Burn, Burn" does tend to sound a bit emo, but I think we really have to take it with a grain of salt and hope for the best. I mean, Gravity, after all, really didn't have much to do with attractive forces between planetary bodies...

OLP is a band that currently relies on melodies more than than anything, not song structure or anything anymore. This is not Naveed. If they stretched out the songs to make them longer, more than likely it would have a negative effect.

Particularly. A la "Walking in Circles". What a boring, elongated song.

It's funny you say that, because with the newer songs, I'm having trouble connecting with them because I can't find any real melody. I'm really big on melodies when I listen to music.

I agree with Nikki here, though I think Driven's point was that melodies are the ONLY thing they rely on with the new music, not that these melodies are necessarily good/catchy.

The structures of their new songs are almost robotic... it's just verse, pre-chorus leadup, chorus, verse, etcetera. Not following this robotic formula is what made OLP so unique in the past. Anyway, blah. Let's not get into this.

Eh? :Johnathan:

Gotta say, not sure what's pathetic about discussing the music, positives and negatives. Isn't that what we're all here to do?

Sorry, didn't mean to turn the conversation negative, just pointing out a few things. I agree that we probably shouldn't venture into this realm of conversation. It's been discussed to death, even during my short time here, let alone those that have been here since 2002.

I could see that some of the negatives were directed towards Gravity, but I didn't quite see the topic heading there.

But this topic of wondering whether it will be leaning towards newer OLP or old school OLP won't really die down until the album is released. It is a valid discussion though, as many are wondering this.

Yeah, I think this is what many of us are wondering about. It's a big topic of discussion because now that the band has separated from a corporate label's grip, we are gonna see their music unfiltered, whatever that might end up being. I definitely don't want to venture into Gravity, that's long over with, and I didn't even think it was that bad, just different.

Yep. Look at the songs off of Naveed, especially "Naveed," "Denied," "Hope" and "Under Zenith." These are songs with odd structures, a different sounds, complex lyrics, and well... they're complex in general.

They tried doing that on HIPT... but it didn't work great. The songs came out bland. "Angels/Losing/Sleep," "Boy," "Walking In Circles," "Picture." It just didn't work. All those songs had great potential, but it just doesn't work.

Yet maybe the better songs on the album, "Love & Trust," "Will the Future Blame Us," "Don't Stop," are relatively simple.

A short album can do a lot of good. REM's latest album, and comeback hit, clocked in at 36 minutes.

What OLP needs to do is go straight to the point and work with their strengths. Raine's solo album could be an example of that.
