Quick Question.

Post by MindsOnLoan »

I am about to visit a cousin who lives in the middle of nowhere, and he's wanting me to burn him a copy of HIPT to listen to until he has a chance to get the actual CD (he's pretty big owning the actual thing).

I don't want to put in my HIPT due to the root kit, but if I download them off a music downloading service, will the virus be on my computer or the disc?

Are you sure your copy has the virus on it? Mine was perfectly normal.

To tell the truth, I'm not even sure. I've been a bit fearful to put in my computer, so I've just listened to it in the car and on my stereo.

If I recall correctly HIPT didn't have the rootkit on it.

I could be wrong though. If it is there I would think it would be pretty easily removed by ad-aware or spybot.

Maybe even a specific rootkit removal tool.

I believe if you hold the shift key and hold it while the tray is retracting, you'll keep it from auto loading any programs. From there you can use whatever ripping program to extract the audio to .wav format, and burn to CD. I highly recommend EAC (Exact Audio Copy) if you don't already use it.

This should help you circumnavigate the rootkit problem.
