OLP on top 500 countdown

Post by myownsatellite »

So I was in the car today, listening to HTZ FM 97.7 (Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Toronto, etc. area) and they're doing their supposedly annual Top 500 Countdown, and Starseed was number 82 on the countdown, beating out Iron Man, several Tragically Hip songs, and a bunch of other awesome stuff.

I just felt like sharing. They're doing the top 40 tomorrow, but I'm not planning on going anywhere so I won't be listening.

Weird. I've never heard them on the radio, except in Canada.

It's a Canadian station.
But they do get play around NY.

It depends what part of NY you are from. The Buffalo area they play OLP alot cause it is just cross the border. Same with any lining state. That is why they seem to have lots of fans in the Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse area. Detroit, Cleveland etc..

Except for Starseed( 94/95). Superman's Dead( in 1997 or so I heard) and Somewhere Out There OLP are not played in NYC area at all on radio. NOt even by K-Rock when they were an alternative station. What makes it even sadder is that there were DJ's there who loved OLP. Plus they were one of the K-Rock 92.3 cent shows in 1997. WHen American Hi Fi opened for them in 01', they were promoting that show as seeing American Hi Fi..

I am use to it though..

The cable music station MUSIC CHOICE plays OLP from time to time. Usually on the rock or the alternative channels.

Yeah, I've seen OLP on Music Choice a quite a few times on "Rock." I've seen Somewhere Out There the most (probably 5 or 6 times), Superman's Dead 2 or 3, and Clumsy once.

I heard Kiss On The Mouth on the Rock channel one day. Almost fell off the couch.. It is funny cause Gravity,KOTM, and Clumsy songs get played on the ROCK Channel

HIPT/Happiness songs get played on the Alternative channel. Go figure.

Heh, that's odd.. But it's a shame Naveed and Spiritual Machines don't get any play...

As for radio play, they get no radio play in West Virginia (unless it's a rare occasion that I don't hear), which I find odd considering I hear they're pretty big in Ohio. Although when I first started actually listening to OLP almost 2 years ago, 4am sounded oddly familiar.. like I had heard it a long time ago. But I'm sure Starseed got play in 1995 since it was big, and Somewhere Out There and Innocent probably got decent play (don't remember any of the three though). And I'm not sure if Innocent is getting play now since David Cook made it big again, considering I haven't listened to the radio in months.

Unless they get airplay in Cleveland or Cincy they can't be that big in Ohio.

Back in the hey days they did criss cross the state a few times. I'm afraid those days are gone though.
