Breaking OLP News Forum

Post by myownsatellite »

Do you think that we could at least have posting access in that Breaking OLP News forum? Because I'm kind of sick of seeing all this breaking news and then having to go create a new thread for it, or go find a new thread, or keep track of the mods' conversations in one thread and everyone else's conversations in another thread...it seems kind of pointless.

Because I WANT TO TALK ABOUT OLP'S NEW ALBUM! And I can't do that in the mods forum. It makes me sad :( And wouldn't it just be easier on everyone if we could keep it all in one place?

Agreed.

It's been so long since we've had continual breaking OLP news. I forget how it was handled before.

Lately though it seems as if there's a news post and theres 20 responses only to find out their all mods when I go to post.

I say make one post about it in the newly created breaking news section on the front page. Mirror that information in a topic on breaking OLP news then lock it and create the same topic in OLP Related Discussion.

I'd go back and look at what I'm trying to say but this hotels internet connection is too frickin slow to do anything and I'm hungry for some dinner.

Megan just proclaimed how mcuh free time she has now. I say she creates a 10 page thesis on a way to resolve this problem.

I'm not writing a single extra essay this summer except the two papers I'll have to write when I get back from London.

yeah, it gets kind of frustrating not being able to discuss things in the thread the news is in, but i guess it's important to keep that section spam free too

so new album! closest to naveed, eh? well, we'll just see about that!

I think the purpose of the breaking news forum is for just news rather than discussion. Even the moderators should try to open a thread in another forum for discussion (though we have permissions to reply in that forum, that is so that we can add additional information to breaking news items).

yeah that's the real problem with the site, I've brought this up in the past a few times, but nothing's been done. I don't believe mods should have the right to reply in that forum, it makes everyone else alienated from the discussion, seeing that mods keep replying and no one else can.

I just think it kind of defeats the purpose of having the forum if we're going to have to create another thread to talk about it anyway. Having two threads for the same discussion, but one where mods can reply and no one else can is really alienating (*shamelessly steals the word from Lando because it's awesome*) and pointless.

Well it used to be the news listing on the front page. hence the no discussion.

anyways, I totally can't wait for this new album. It definitely sounds like OLP's come to their senses. At the very least OLP's shooting for greatness again (aka Naveed)...even if they miss they should still land miles ahead of HIPT and Gravity!

I'll do some changes next week when I have a little bit more free time. I'm in the middle of a 7 night stretch of work.

i think i will have to agree with the alienating and somewhat onerous system it is that breaking news is mod access only. I agree that having a place to post updates is needed but the ensuing mod discussions make it very confusing

glad that olp has almost finished the disk.

Yeah... no other forum I visit has this setup, and I can see why to be frank. It's pretty unnecessary IMO, the news is automatically split from the discussion by the fact that the first post's the news, the rest isn't.

Besides, no user should have to read only moderators can post in this forum in their lifetime, it's just too much to take. :(
They said: "There's too much caffeine in your bloodstream, and a lack of real spice in your life"
I said : "Leave me alone, because I'm alright, dad. Surprised to still be on my own..."
Oh, but don't mention love. I'd hate the strain of the pain again.

Meet saraandtegan.ca. It works the same way there. Breaking news is posted in a new thread in the "Hot off the Presses" section. That thread is immediately locked and then discussion of the news takes place in a new thread in the TnS related section. It's just easier that/this way. I'm not sure I agree with breaking news threads becoming Mod-only threads but I do agree that these threads should be locked. Just makes for a very uncluttered place to find OLP-related news
