DVD Format War is now over...
Toshiba (internal rumor)(however basically confirmed) is set to SCRAP the HD-DVD competition with Blu-Ray.
The format war is over.
I hope many of you did not spend a whole lot siding with HD-DVD because it looks like Blu-Ray is the way to go.
Just giving everybody a heads up. In case you haven't already heard. I'm honestly glad it's coming to an end. Hd-dvd is this gen's "beta".

haha werent we talking about that way back when? well... not necessarily the dumb part but how things would all play out and stuff
haha yeah, i think we talked about the dumbness too though just maybe not in that wording.

I was looking at TV's on Best Buy's website and noticed they are offering trades on HD DVD players and discs (HD DVD's must be traded in combination with the player). You print off a label, pack up your equipment and discs, then mail it to their trade in center. The value of player and disc was estimated at 47 dollars, which in a little under half of what I paid. I may take advantage of it and come out with only a $68 loss.

That's not bad, but damn those combo players are expensive. You can get better prices on the combo players on eBay. Almost $200 difference in some cases.
I'm just glad I didn't buy a huge catalog of HD DVD's and end up stuck. I only purchased one at the same time I bought my player, and the player was on sale at over half off the normal price. I'll probably just take advantage of the trade in at Best Buy and buy a Blu-Ray player with a new LCD TV next week.
