Help! Need Advice :S

guys, i am conflicted. someone tell me what to do.

i have an invite to a wedding in saskatoon at the end of this month. my brother's already got his flight and stuff booked. i wasn't planning to go originally, but the family called yesterday, asking me especially to come. the wedding is my friend's brother's, whom i don't really know all that well. still, i'm on pretty good terms with said friend, and i love weddings. also, saskatoon. never a bad thing. i know tons of people there, so lodging won't be a problem. and needless to say, i really really want to go.

on the minus side, however, it's really expensive to fly to saskatoon from here. the cheapest flight i've been able to find is $714. i have a little more than $300 in my bank account, and i still need to pay almost $600 for my tuition for the summer semester. however, i do have two jobs, and if i put the trip on a credit card, i'll be able to pay it off eventually within a couple of months. however, i won't be able to do a whole lot of spending there, like renting a car and stuff, and i'd feel helpless without any transport. then there's the fact that i don't after all know the groom or bride very well. my parents aren't crazy about the idea of my going when money is so tight. as well, i'm not sure work will be very pleased if i ask for back to school week off in my first month there.

so that's the situation. the logical part of me tells me to stay put, pay my fees, and go next year when i have more money. but the other part of me says to throw caution to the wind and go, and deal with the consequences later. what do you guys think i should do?

Hmm, I dunno. Perhaps stay put but send them a nice wedding present and let them know that you wish you could've made it?

I vote skip.

If you are only able to start planning it now, its gonna get pricey, quick. And if you are still paying tuition on the summer, and are planning on going in the fall, thats a lot more money.
Money money money
If someone was able to help you pay for it, or get a cheaper ticket and put you up for the time there or something.... like yeah its more understandable. But paying everything on your own? I don't think its a great idea.
Besides, Saskatoon is boring. Go to... Argentina next year or something. Thats far more exciting.

And, you can spend more time working with meeeeee :O <3

Haha, thats my long way of saying don't put yourself in debt if you don't have to.

hmm, yeah. like i said, i don't have any problems with the lodgings there. i know tons of people i can stay with. plus, since i'm part time in school, tuition isn't overwhelmingly huge. maybe i'll just keep an eye out for a seat sale or something around that time and go if something cheap comes up, stay if it doesn't. it'll still put me in debt but i'll be able to pay it off.

also, sarah, saskatoon to me or anyone in my family is anything but boring. it's our home. even if i had a billion dollars, i'd still pick it over argentina

I say go. Yeah, I know, the money. I think I ws the cheapest person alive until the last few years. I still don't make too many rash decisions, but I regret not doing things more than I have regretted spending money. You're not going crazy or anything.

Regrets are the last thing you want. What will you regret more? Missing out on experiences in your life or losing some money? That's how you should decide.

i went lots of places this summer, and now i'm broke! it was worth it. i have a nice bit of credit card debt from it, but i have my entire life to pay it off. and, when i'm dead, the credit won't matter anyway! i don't have my entire life to do all the stuff i did, though. certain things only happen once, and it's not worth missing them just because you'll be strapped for money.

oh, and random thought that probably will crash and burn...is it by any chance, for some crazy reason, cheaper to fly to regina? it's worth checking out.

also laurel, i don't think it's any cheaper to fly to regina. i know it's cheaper to fly to calgary, but then the expense of traveling from calgary to saskatoon makes the total roughly the same

oh and saman i'm not trying to convince you to go. i personally would, but like i was saying i'm just suggesting for you to consider what you'd regret more.

some people would regret the money loss more than missing the trip, there are different types of people, that's all.

lol i know. i do appreciate the advice. sadly, i think i'd regret it all the same either way. i guess i'll just keep an eye out for seat sales, and see how it works out.

Wow, you are defending it pretty heavily there.

I think you already know that you want to go and that its worth the investment.
You should go for it! Yeah, its money, but you can always earn that back. You obviously already know that you are going to love it, so just go for it and deal with any negative consequences when they come. Do it!

naw, staples doesnt care. you can take as much time off as you want, as long as its in the time off book. you are part time, so its all good.
... as long as you dont ask off 3 weeks out of each month, every month.

well, against everyone's advice, i've decided not to go. the logical side of me won, i guess, although i did spend most of today feeling miserable about it.

i'm trying to think of it in terms on "if i didn't have a credit card, would i go?" the answer is no. i'm still new to the whole credit world, and the thought of more than a thousand dollar debt appearing above my head all of a sudden makes me too nervous. plus, there are other financial things to think of too, like my student loan going into repayment in december. then there's the fact that as much fun as it'll be, the wedding isn't for someone who is super important to me. and my parents have been discouraging me against going ever since i told them i may not go after all, which isn't helping at all. i guess i'll just work a lot this year and go next year for my high school reunion. there's bound to be a wedding happening around then too.

guess you'll just have to keep me entertained at work during back to school week, sarah. lol

if you didn't have a credit card, you could take out a loan with less interest to pay back!
