Mmmkay....I have a Motorola RAZR. I bought the data cable and Motorola Phone tools.
Now, trying to transfer ringtones to my phone and i'm getting a failed missing codecs message.
What the hell is wrong?
I use Media Player 11. Should I downgrade the POS? I'm obviously missing proper codecs; don't know where.
Its pissing me off. Help me.

I don't know a lot about Media Player 11, but my uncle was getting the same error when trying to rip music cds. Soooo I looked it up for him and I guess a lot of people are getting errors with media player 11. I'm sure they'll have a fix eventually, but I don't know for sure.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Ok....I did a Media Player rollback. I hated version 11, anyways. I haven't tried the phone tools program, yet.
Now...also, could Winamp or I-Tunes have anything to do with my issues?
Or does anybody know of any other programs out there to rip tones through data cable? I know of BitPim; but your phone has to be CDMA to use it. I got GSM.

reg key hacks can be iffy for one
unless you know precisely what you are doing i wouldnt advise it
secondly, for the most part, codec problems arent related to specific software (although in this case i do think its media player 11 which is more micro$hit at its best than anything else)
and thirdly, CDMA sucks and you were better off going GSM by far.. CDMA hasnt been completely become obsolete because it was developed by a huge american company w/ significant ties to either congress, the senate or both (i forget which)
(btw it was developed by qualcoomm over in cali)
ps when the rebuild in iraq was in its starting stages the plan was to roll out CDMA networks to rebuild the iraqi network strictly because of qualcomm's ties to various govt agencies and what not.. im fairly sure it was shot down but it was being pushed very hard.... a very large % of countries in the world and something like 90+ % of the countries in the middle east (if not 100%) use GSM for their networks so anyone travelling to iraq would either have to get a new phone for that country or do something else inconvenient along those lines

I know CDMA blows. I'm glad I got GSM.

I might just sell the phone. The biggest problem is that it was unlocked but TMobile branded, and I activated with Cellular One. Being branded blocks some of the apps. I may ebay the phone and purchase one directly from Cell One.
There has GOT to be a fix for this. Its pissin' me off. haha

Ok....now this isn't making sense.
I got ONE way to work, but its more of a pain than I feel like dealing with.
I use the site, Mobile17, and have them email me the tone. I save it to my computer.
After I've saved it....I use this 2nd program called MOBILedit! and transfer the tone into my phone.
It works....but c'mon. I don't understand why Motorola Phone Tools is making this such a hassle. Its working flawless for the other method. It would be much easier JUST to do it all in MPT.
Codecs? WTF. I don't get it.
