Duncan's message--Recording in Raine's studio....

Post by carleiu »

Does anyone here think that could possibly mean that Raine will be handling the production for the next album?

Personally, I really hope so. After how close they came to breaking up with Bob Rock while doing HIPT, I hope they don't go back to him.

If Raine does handle production, maybe we'll get a fresh, not-so-poppy, sound for the next album. I know that I wouldn't mind seeing the creativity that flowed during the pre-Gravity era (not necessarily the same sound as the first 4 albums, just not as much pop as the last two).

Just trying to stimulate some conversation during this slow OLP news time. What does everyone else think?

If you read the post, I think that the band has done some recording and writing prior to the upcoming July meeting.

I think that going to Raine's studio means that they're going to start preliminary stuff for the record, that however does not mean that he's going to produce the album. If anything, it'll probably just end up being a jam session but seeing as how the band doesn't seem to have played together in a while, hopefully it will progress to more than that. Besides, it'll probably just end up being a demo so that they can shop themselves around to new labels. Also, if Raine does produce it, I don't see why it wouldn' t be poppy. Look at the work he's done in the past, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, The Veronicas...definately some radio-friendly work there.

It is kind of exciting that something is finally stirring in OLP land, I was just talking to my girlfriend about how I think they're finished but I want to reserve my judgement about these sessions until we hear something and Duncan says that they may post some preliminary work online which should be exiting.

Here's to hoping we hear something from them soon.

They still have one more album on their contract with Columbia I think... I don't think they'll be working with Bob Rock again, but this stuff at Raine's studio will probably just be fleshing out ideas for songs or recording demos.

Will the band ever decide to release any more material from the HIPT sessions? The particular song I've always wanted to hear is Vampires.

I expect this album will be released Summer 2008 and they will again make a big deal about it taking 3 years.

I think they leaked an early version of Vampires - I'm sure someone on the Hub has a copy if you're looking for it.

I've heard the crappy unfinished version of it that was once played on radio but not the finished version - which I guess will never be heard. But thanks for helping anyway.

Lando, do you really have the studio version of Vampires?

And awsome news on OLP.

It sounds worryingly like a ballad-esque compilation of songs.

I threw a MySpace message Raine's way asking about the title, hopefully he responds. Maybe the "us" is the U.S.

I wouldn't take the wiki too seriously. Anyone can edit it, and there is nothing on .cc aboot it. Nikki is generally the queen of the OLP wiki, and I feel certain she'll probably edit that out once she notices it. Reza, yes hopefully Raine will answer your question. I agree with the above statement about a 2008 release. I really don't see them pulling an album together before the end of this year. It would be especially poor to have it roll out on the end of Raine's solo release, or vice versa.

In true gentlemanly fashion, Raine responded promptly in a message that reads as follows:

"first i've heard of that title. interesting. so far my working title is " a near life experience"
R "

I think he misunderstood what I meant by 'new album,' but since he hasn't heard of In Us, it's pretty safe to say that the album will not be called that. A Near Life Experience is his solo album.

It's no problem, it's kind of nice finally being able to clear stuff like this up right when it happens otherwise we'd spend the next two years calling it In Us. It's awesome that he responded to it too.

how did we all manage to miss this chart attack article?

http://chartattack.com/damn/2007/06/1312.cfm

Our Lady Peace have been keeping a relatively low profile recently, but will start work on their new studio album in the coming weeks.

"Just thought you might like to know that we have been doing some writing and recording," bassist Duncan Coutts wrote recently on the band's MySpace page. "It looks like we will be heading into Raine's studio in July."

Coutts also said that the group plan to post some early or demo versions of their new songs during the recording process. The album will be the band's first new studio effort since 2005's Healthy In Paranoid Times. They included two new songs on the A Decade hits compilation that came out in November.

Lead singer Raine Maida is also working on a solo album after releasing a four-song EP titled Love Hope Hero last November.

"I have nine songs mixed and being mastered for the full length record," Maida wrote on his MySpace page in late May. "I'm in the process of finishing the last three.

"I'm as frustrated as anyone waiting for this to be done with. I'm pretty much over the studio now and quite excited to start playing this shit out live."

It's unknown when the solo album will be released or if Maida will tour in support of it.

Although busy with music, Maida found time to express his views on Paris Hilton in a June 4 post. It doesn't appear that they'll be exchanging Christmas cards anytime soon.

"Paris Hilton is in prison. She is a whore beyond whores. She checked into prison a day early to make sure she would make all the weekly magazine story deadlines and or covers. What kind of fucking world do we live in? I usually do my best to avoid such crap in the morning but this morning I was unable to escape this scientifically timed spectacle."
