You do realize he's on the DL, and out three months after surgury right?

But right on. Go Tigers.

Also, go Pirates and Marlins.

Oh, and the Royals have a sweet team with Ryan Shealy, Mark Teahen, Alex Gordon and Zack Greinke all about to become household names.

Gordon could/will be this year's David Wright of '05, and Greinke might possibly be getting votes for the Cy with his absured strikeout to walk ratio. They would be in the race all year in the AL West, NL Central or NL West.

And next year will be a madhouse in the AL Central if the Twins don't run away with it (Santana, Bonser, Garza, Liriano might be the best rotation anywhere in years if Liriano can bounce back quickly).

And here's hoping the Jays and their unreal team on base percentage can get enough pitching to compete with NY/Boston.

Predictions:

Red Sox(1) vs. Angels(4)
Yankees(2) vs. Tigers(3)

Tigers vs Red Sox

------

Mets(1) vs Cubs(4)
Padres(2) vs Marlins(3)

Mets vs. Padres

------

Red Sox over Mets in the best series since Arizona/NY in 98 or whenever it was.

More Predictions:

MVPs: Alex Rodriguez and Miguel Cabrera

CY Young Winners: Matsuzaka (only because Boston gets in the playoffs and the twins don't; Johan will once again be the best pitcher in baseball) and Jake Peavy

Comeback: Gary Sheffield and Oliver Perez

AL ROY: Daisuke Matsuzaka (with Alex Gordon being the best rookie position player and huge props to Matt Garza but i don't think he's eligable)

NL ROY: i'll go with Homer Bailey if the Reds give him the call soon enough. If not, Troy Tulowitzki in a toss-up of awesome talent.

I was gonna drill ya for the Royals comments, Brett, but you redeemed yourself by the above.

Liriano is on the 60-day. We'll see what happens. He might not even pitch this year.

The Twins, this year, I believe have the strongest and most balanced roster since the 1987 winning team.

I do think its far too early to try and make end-of-season predictions, though, but I think its gonna be tough to see Santana lose the AL Cy Young; unless he gets hurt. Even if the Twins suck he's still capable of being on top.

I realize Liriano probably won't throw a ball this season. That's why i said next year for the Twins.
I'm really pumped for when they give up on Silva or Ortiz and let Garza take the ball though.
Wont be great news for the Tigers, but he'll be gold for my fantasy teams.

As far as the Cy goes, if there's another pitcher with numbers even close to Santana who gets in the playoffs (and the Twins don't), they'll probably give the award to that guy. But i agree with you, he's hands down the best pitcher in the league unless Rich Harden can stay healthy or Matsuzaka does as well here as he has in Japan.

And about the Royals.. maybe putting them in a playoff race this year was a bit of a stretch, but they're one good starter and a good bulpen away from being seriously tough. They have a long way to go, but i fully expect their offense to make huge strides this year. And I'm not disappointed that Detroit gets to miss Greinke's turn in the rotation.

Greinke pitched horribly his opening shift on the mound. Gosh.....I mean; he was struggling just to HIT the strike zone.

With Garza pitching in Rochester (AAA) for the Red Wings....I'm gonna try and catch one of the games that he's pitching. See how he does. You're right, though, I don't have a great deal of confidence in Silva....at all.

Matsuzaka should make things interesting. That stupid looking screwball he throws actually looks hard to freaking hit. That's gonna catch up with him in a few more years, though, cuz throwing a screwball really messes up the 'ol throwing arm.

I'll give it another three years, at least, before the Royals are contenders. Heck, I'll still be shocked if they get a man in their lineup hit 25 HRs this season.

I didn't see the game, but Greinke's line is awesome. As are his spring stats.

Matsuzaka's "screwball" doesn't look like it'll hurt him. it's not a traditional screwball, he throws it kinda like a football. My problem is that it seems very likely the spin will give it away and make it hittable or at least layoffable once guys see it a few times.

Not sure the Royals will be contenders soon as good as the division is, but i could see them getting good fast. I don't know what their farm system arms are like and i don't know if they'll be in the market for a starter at the end of this season, but either of the two and i could see them causing problems as early as next year.

As for 25hr guys, I bet two of Gordon, Shealy, and Teahen do it. And if Sweeney could stay healthy for once he'd almost be a lock... but that's a longshot.

almost forgot, check out the screwball. They call it a "shuuto" in Japan according to wikipedia.
Here's a good video:

Looks like a wicked pitch if the spin isn't detectable.

Huge win for the Tigers today.
Bonderman had the changeup looking pretty good, and the bulpen did their job.

Baltimore's playing really well, but their bulpen might be tired after this series with the Yankees and we get to miss their ace.
The Verlander / Adam Loewen matchup should be interesting on Wednesday.

Awsome hit by Pudge today.

It's awsome when you have a lineup basically top to bottom that can come through in clutch situations.

If it's not Pudge it's Guien, if it's not Guien it's Thames or Casey or Polanco etc etc

We don't have 1 big HR hitter but we have lots of good solid hitters throughout the lineup.

Exactly. The bottom of the lineup hasn't really come through yet this year though. It'll be good to see Inge break out of his slump and prove that last year wasn't a career year. I'm not sure i love his bat, but he's unreal defensively at third.

And i'd love to see Shelton or Thames get some playing time at first base. Casey's pretty good and all, but i love the upside of those other guys. It's tough to sit a veteran like Casey for any reason, but i think Shelton deserves the chance given what he did last year and what he's been doing to end spring training and kick off the season in Toledo.

Also, it was great to see Maggs get that double in the ninth. He's looked really uncomfortable from what i've seen before today, but hopefully he's coming around.

Yea but Casey really isn't the most mobile guy so 1st fits him pretty well especailly with his reach.

Right, they can't put him anywhere else. But i almost think they should bench him once in a while to give guys like Shelton some playing time. You just can't really do that to such an established veteran.

Promising game today despite the loss. Ledezma pitched well, and Maggs seems to be heating up. I'll take it for now.

Twelve inning pitchers' duels aren't good for my exam schedule.

Good to see Verlander not showing signs of wear from last season. Looks like he's got a special arm. And i'm so encouraged by the way Ledezma's throwing. I love that guy. Might even be cool to see him get a couple spot starts if Durban struggles.
