*cough* Maybe we'll get some of the old OLP back? Instead of the pop crap?

I'm strangely curious to see where they will go with this next effort.
Having followed them quite closely from the apex of Clumsy to the dawn of Gravity (the death of the band heard on the first 4 records), and having suffered through Gravity and the overwrought HIPT, I'm pretty amazed if they're recording new material.
To be honest, I'm wondering where the "musicians" on Happiness went and I think OLP might take us on a another "turn into the ditch" as Neil Young would say. As always, I await with interest and I hope to hear more like A/L/S on this record. There was a glimmer of the past on that one.

No artist wants to be stuck with the same sound for the rest of their careers. It is highly unlikely that we'll ever hear another album like Happiness or Spiritual Machines. I don't believe they want to make those albums. It's possible Raine may create lyrics that are more ambiguous and open to interpretation, but I think the music will stay very basic.

OLP were done somewhere between Happiness and SM. OLP's commercial success seems to be on the decline as well now.
This isn't to say that the band member's are done, all are too talented to be done for good. Unfortunately OLP is something that should have ended years ago.

I agree, we will never hear anything like SM or Happiness again. In fact, I can b arely even picture Raine singing songs like that anymore.
On the other hand, I think having OLP produce an album filled with songs like "Al-genina" and "Love and Trust" is entirely possible. IMO, songs with that style would be a pretty big jump from Gravity and the rest of HIPT; and I think that with Bob Rock out of the picture it could actually happen.

I wouldn't even be interested in SM or Clumsy if they came out now...
haha I'm pretty sure I'm the only one here who thinks that though.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

I don't understand this post. They were done somewhere between Happiness and Spiritual Machines? Maybe in terms of their great work, yes.
But how do you follow that up by saying that their commercial success seems to be on the decline? Of course HIPT did not sell nearly as well as Gravity, but you could have said that same thing about Spiritual Machines. Gravity is their second best selling CD in the U.S...
