it's a hell of a lot of fun. not a whole lot different from gamecube, I assume. just a lot of aiming with the remote, swinging the remote to strike with the sword, swinging the nunchuk for spin attack, thrusting the nunchuk forward for shield attack, etc

depends on where you are. I got lucky and found out from the manager of a local EB when the shipments usually come in. otherwise, the employees are told to just say that they don't know what day or time they get them (which is kind of a lie, since they do come at regular times, there's just no guarantee it will come on any given day).

also, hold out for a Wii. the xbox360 is good, but it's just another gaming system. the Wii's really worth it just to try something new.

or you could get both. it'll still cost you less than a PS3!

except I can't afford both. Otherwise I'd do just that :P

The Wii is novel...but is there holding power? will there be enough diversity in the games to keep me intererested? I mean Blair and I really have little else to do most of the time, so I need a gaming system where we can play for hours on end for days at a time . . . I know for a fact the Xbox will give us that; will the Wii? I'm really not sure. I'd love to have a Wii, because I think the concept is fucking brilliant, but I don't want to invest the money and be disappointed by the amount of games that interest me.

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. Zelda alone has ensured that it's not just a casual-gamer system. I've dropped over 40 hours into that game and I'm still not done the main storyline, never mind the side stuff.

I think that fairly soon we'll see a lot more games released on the wii that seal it in as a "real" system. right now there aren't many games for it anyways, so it's hard to judge what types of games will come. I think we'll see a good mix of simple-but-unique games and the more typical types of games you're used to (adapted with some awesome features using the remote).

I can't really say much bad about the 360. it's a solid system, for sure. it's been around longer so there's obviously more games for it. I just love that the wii is able to offer something different. and once more games start coming out, I think it will be in the same league as the 360 as far as variety of games is concerned.

It'll cost you more actually. Only like 30-50 bucks before tax, but still! You'd have two systems. Unless you get the core 360, that would be cheaper, but then you're a moron anyway and will have to shell out a lot more cash just to use it online or to use the high def capabilities.

Actually, to get the Wii (along with the sweet accessories) you'll be paying more for the Wii versus the 360

System: 249 (around 270 total with tax)
Additional Wii-mote: 40.00
Additional Nunchuck: 20.00
Classic Controller: 20.00

This is, of course, assuming you'd want to be able to at least do some 2-player action, and want the classic controller for the virtual console games.

Nintendo has the cheapest system, but they are RAPING all of us with the accessories. Shoot, just to freaking connect my Wii, online, I have to buy a fucking adapter. It's mental.

The 360 is getting "Blue Dragon" this summer, and its going to be one of the top games of the year; without a doubt. Perhaps the best RPG we'll see this year.

You know its sweet when a next-gen game is getting shipped needing 3 discs to play the full game.

Can't wait....

Oh and Lando, sorry I keep ignorning the invites to play "Gears" online; dude, that game's multiplayer freaking blows. I will play some night, though, for general amusement.

* RUMORED new Kid Icarus (Wii)

* Assassins Creed (360)
* Zelda Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo DS)

I think I'm going with the 360. I'll probably get one next time I'm downtown. There are just too many games for that system I want to play; and as I'm an RPG kinda gamer, and the gamecube had hardly any RPGs, my best bet is the 360. Besides, we'll be able to sell Blair's Xbox this way, whereas if I got a Wii we'd need to keep Blair's Xbox around to play our DVDs on

The multiplayer is freaking awesome. It broke records. More people online for that game at one time than for Halo 2.

Also, The Wii is still cheaper. 250 + 40 + 20. (The classic controller isn't really needed if u have a gamecube controller, because between a gamecube controller and the wii one, you can play all classic games. So you're looking at a price of 310 US. However, if you're buying an extra controller for that you'd have to do the same for 360 as it's only fair. Even if the wii is more for in house multiplayer rather than over the internet play. The 360 Premium version is still 400 Canadian without a bundle that includes games. So, you factor in another 50 bucks for a controller and you're looking at 450 to play two players on a 360, but 450 is worth it. I'd say considering the graphical power and how it's actually next gen compared to the Wii.

You're right on the RPG situation; the Wii is not going to be an RPG's best friend.

Even Square Unix has already said the Wii's control scheme is why they are possibly keeping the FF series away from the console.

Go "360".....trust me, if you check into Blue Dragon you'll see why its gonna rock. I'm not even a huge RPG fan, but I can tell I'm gonna love this game.

Yeah....I've never even considered looking into buying it. Hell, getting a HD-DVD player, at all, right now doesn't make a great deal of sense. Does it??? Is there really THAT many movies out in HD-DVD format, yet?

Once I get my HDTV in a couple of weeks......I'll be happy, alone, being able to play the Wii-60 combo in HD glory.

Hell, just taking the Wii up to 480; actually makes a solid difference.

About Blue Dragon, the reason it's going to take up 3 DVDs is because of all the Cut Scenes. Since Microsoft went with the DVD format that can only hold 8GBs of Data, they couldn't fit the whole game and cut scenes on such a small amount of space.

And Neil you're absolutely right, there is no reason to go to the next step up of DVDs, such as HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, since there isn't a specific format that's going to be the standard for HD home movie watching, you're going to be wasting your money. Especially if you go HD-DVD, they only have 3 movie companies backing them, Warner Brothers and Paramount (Which are both backing Blu-ray too along with a bunch of other companies) and then there's Universal who's only backing HD-DVD. Sooo until a specific format becomes the standard, you can't get any Universal movies if you end up going Blu-Ray, although if you go HD-DVD you can't get a bunch of movies from all the companies they have backing them, Sony, Miramax, Tri-star, Columbia, and on and on... I think that's what will make Blu-Ray win out. That and the fact that they have 50 gbs of space instead of 30 like HD-DVD... but until a specific format is chosen and ALL movie companies are licensed to release their product on said format, there's no point in going out and switching from regular DVDs to the new High Def ones.

Also about your Wii and your new HDTV, too bad it doesn't support High Def and that you need to buy the separate cables just to get 480p or whatever... Lame... but not a problem really, they weren't going for amazing graphics anyway. Your 360 will look amazing on it though.

I just bought my 360 today

Apparently I looked like an angry weasel guarding it on the subway. Or so I was told.

...and now I'm off to drool over Oblivion.

Let me know how Obivion is......I think I might be one of the only 360 owners that hasn't played it.

Also, while I'm here, does anybody subscribe to any game rental subscriptions?? Such as Blockbuster Game-Pass, or Gamefly, or GamezNflix, etc. (?????)

I've floated around to a few different.....started with Intelleflix (they SUCK) went to Gamefly (all the games, but slow to east coast) and then went to GamezNFlix. GamezNflix starts out well, but the longer you're with them, the longer it'll take because GamezNflix only cares about the new customers.

I'm debating......going back to Gamefly and suffering through the LONG wait times while the games are in the mail, or, suffering the high price and signing up for Blockbuster GamePass, since I got a blockbuster about twenty minutes away.

Insight?

I don't usually rent, I usually just buy, but if I were to rent I'd still rent from Blockbuster due to their no late fees on video games as well as movies. That was I could keep a game for up to a month to finish it if I really wanted with only like a dollar restocking fee.

Thats what I used to do; pre-xbox360. However, with the next-gen consoles you are only given an additional 7 days, versus a month, so....not as much time.

Blockbuster's game-pass is freakin 21.99 a month; thats the one shitty element with them. They either need to bring that price down, to compete strongly with Gamefly, or get into the mail-rental competition.

They have to be doing well with the movies; I'm honestly shocked that they haven't gotten into the gaming aspect of things, as well.

That 7 days thing is lame. Somehow I don't think that Canada has the same policy.
